WARNING! H-1381 Drum Opener is NOT a non-sparking device. Never use where there is any possibility of ignition from sparks. WARNING! The Drum Opener is designed for use only with steel drums. Do not use to open any type of fiber or plastic drums. WARNING! All threaded parts must be tight except for the adjustment knobs.
Turn back the adjustment knob to extend the drum opener to the fully open position for maximum blade clearance over drum chime. (See Figure 1)
Tilt the handle over the drum and place the groove in the cutter base on top of the drum chime. (See Figure 2)
With blade over the chime, tighten the knob to slowly bring the cutter base firmly in contact with the side of the drum. The blade should contact the inside edge of the chime. (See Figure 3)
Turn back the adjustment knob slightly so that the blade does not bind and wedge drum chime between blade and cutter base. (See Figures 4-5)
Press down on the handle until blade punctures drum head. Raise the handle and slide drum opener to make your next cut. (See Figures 6-7)CAUTION! Keep left hand firmly on drum opener throughout the cut. Do not place on drum chime while cutting!
Repeat until cut is complete. (See figures 8-9)CAUTION! Cut edges are sharp! Use caution when removing drum head.
MAINTENANCE
Lubricate moving parts periodically. NOTE: Check bolts and nuts frequently for tightness. If any parts are loose, remove unit from service and repair. CAUTION! If cut edge on drum becomes rough, the blade may be worn and should be replaced.
