Instructions
Preparing the Trap –
- Familiarize yourself with the parts of the trap and how they operate.
- Allow the animal to become familiar with the trap by placing it, with the door propped open and baited, where the animal is used to feeding.
Trapping Tips –
- Locate the cage trap in an area where the animal is often observed.
- Place the cage on a level surface. Position a side of the cage trap against a wall of a building or a path commonly traveled by the animal.
- It is helpful if the animal is hungry before you trap. If anyone is feeding the animal, you may want to suggest to refrain for a few days.
- Check with your local or state Game Commission to determine the lawful method of releasing of a captured wild or nuisance animal.
General –
- To ensure safe and humane trapping of wild animals, choose the appropriate size trap for theanimals and check the trap often.
- To calm trapped animals, cover the entire trap and limit human contact.
Baiting –
- For best results, create a trail with bait from outside the trap to the Trigger Plate.
- Place bait approximately two inches from the back of the trap. Do not place bait on the trigger plate. If you have difficulty reaching the back of the trap, place trap on its end, and drop bait into the trap.NOTE: Always bait the trap before setting it.
- Suggested baits:•Cats: Cat Food, Sardines• Raccoons: Bacon, Cat Food, Marshmallows, Sardines.• Groundhogs: Sliced Bananas, Apples, Lettuce.
Setting and Releasing –
- Lift the Door Lock up with one hand. Illustration 1
- Using the other hand, push the Door Lock Frame inwards and begin to open Trap Door (Illustration 1).Illustration 2
- When the Trap Door is completely open, pull Trigger forward and hook onto door (Illustration 2).Gently release hold of door. Trap is set.
- To release animal, lift door and prop open with a stick or other sturdy object threaded throughthe side of the trap. Walk away and animal will exit.NOTE: Any camouflage or material used to hide the trap should not interfere with the operation of the trap in any way.
2Release/Relocation of Captured Animals.
