Step 3: Getting started
- Make sure the power to all devices is turned off! Connect all the appropriate power, audio and USB cables to the mixer.
- Turn the mixer on.
- Set all controls as shown above (EQ and PAN/BAL centered, all others down/off).
- Set the GAIN for each channel.See the Gain Setting section for details.
- With the MAIN MIX faders and PHONES/CTRL RM knob all the way down, turn your power amp or powered speakers on.
- Slowly raise the MAIN MIX faders or PHONES/CTRL RM knob to 0 or to desired level.
- Adjust the relative level of various microphones and instruments by raising each CHANNEL FADER.
- Adjust the left-right position of a channel in the stereo field if necessary by turning the channel’s PAN or BAL knob.
- To add compression to an input, adjust the COMP knob until the adjacent LED lights up. This reduces the dynamics and increases the perceived loudness of the channel.
- For live applications, adjust the overall output from the mixer to the power amp or powered speakers by raising the MAIN MIX faders. If the red CLIP LEDs on the VU METER light, lower the MAIN MIX faders.
- Use the channel AUX knobs and master AUX SEND knobs to send the channel’s signal to an effects processor or monitor speaker connected to the AUX SEND jacks. If used for effects, this signal should be returned to one of the AUX RETURN jacks.
XENYX X1204USB/1204USB Gain Setting
- Press the Channel 1 SOLO button. Press the MODE button next to the VU METER to allow the METER to operate in PFL (pre-fader listen) mode
- Sing, speak or play at a normal level through the microphone or instrument connected to Channel 1.
- While singing or playing, turn Channel 1’s GAIN control. The VU METER will display the signal level. Set the GAIN control so that the loudest peaks reach 0 on the VU METER. Press the Channel 1 SOLO button again.
- Repeat steps 1-3 for any other channels that will be used. For channels 5/6 and 7/8, start with the +4/-10 button out. If the signal is too low to register on the VU meters, press the button in to boost the gain.
Setting the channel gain for the 1204USB
- Raise Channel 1’s fader to 0. Sing, speak or play at a normal level through the microphone or instrument connected to Channel 1.
- While singing or playing, turn Channel 1’s GAIN control until the Channel 1 CLIP LED flashes occasionally, but not constantly.
- Repeat steps 1 and 2 for devices connected to Channels 2-4.For devices connected to Channels 5/6 and 7/8, start with the +4/-10 button pushed in.If the Channel CLIP LED lights up, push the +4/-10 button again to reduce the input signal.
X1204USB Multi-FX Processor
- Turn the AUX 2 knob up half way on each channel to which you would like to add an effect.
- Turn the AUX SEND 2 and AUX RETURN 2 knobs up half way to start. You may adjust them later.

- Adjust the effect’s first parameter:• After you have selected a preset (step 3), press the PROGRAM knob to enter Edit Mode. The right LED inside the display will start blinking.
- Adjust the effect’s second parameter:• If the effect’s second parameter is an on/off or toggled value, press the TAP button to select between settings. 2 LEDs inside the display will start blinking.
- Readjust each channel’s AUX 2 knob to make sure the right amount of effect is added.
