Important Safety Instructions

READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING YOUR APPLIANCE.

When using an electrical appliance, basic precautions should be observed, including the following:

TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE, ELECTRIC SHOCK OR INJURY:

  • This appliance can be used by children aged from 8 years and above and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved. Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children without supervision.
  • Do not allow to be used as a toy. Close attention is necessary when used by or near children.
  • Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
  • Unplug from electrical socket when not in use, before cleaning, maintaining, or servicing the appliance.
  • Do not immerse in water or liquid.
  • Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers, and all parts of body away from openings and moving parts of the appliance and its accessories.
  • Do not use to suck up water.
  • Do not immerse in water for cleaning.
  • If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or similarly qualified person in order to avoid a hazard.
  • Do not use with damaged cord or plug.
  • Do not pull or carry by cord, use cord as a handle, close door on cord, or pull cord around sharp edges or corners.
  • Keep cord away from heated surfaces.
  • If the appliance has a hand-held accessory like pet brush, motor driven head, etc., the user shall avoid entrapment.
  • Do not leave appliance when plugged in.
  • To unplug, grasp the plug, not the cord.
  • Do not handle plug or appliance with wet hands.
  • Turn OFF all controls before unplugging.
  • The hose contains electrical wires. Do not use when damaged, cut or punctured. Avoid picking up sharp objects.
  • Plastic film can be dangerous. To avoid danger of suffocation, keep away from children.
  • Use only as described in this user guide.
  • Use only manufacturer’s recommended attachments.
  • If appliance is not working as it should, has been dropped, damaged, left outdoors, or dropped into water; do not attempt to operate it and have it repaired at an authorised service center.
  • Do not put any object into openings.
  • Do not use with any opening blocked; keep free of dust, lint, hair, and anything that may reduce air flow.
  • Use extra care when cleaning on stairs.
  • Do not use to pick up flammable or combustible liquids, such as petroleum, or use in areas where they may be present.
  • Do not pick up toxic material (chlorine bleach, ammonia, drain cleaner, etc.).
  • Do not use appliance in an enclosed space filled with vapours given off by oil-based paint, paint thinner, some moth-proofing substances, flammable dust, or other explosive or toxic vapours.
  • Do not pick up hard or sharp objects such as glass, nails, screws, coins, etc.
  • Do not pick up anything that is burning or smoking, such as cigarettes, matches or hot ashes.
  • Do not use without filters in place.
  • Do not use outdoors or on wet surfaces.
  • CAUTION: In order to avoid a hazard due to inadvertent resetting of the thermal cut-out, this appliance must not be supplied through an external switching device, such as a timer, or connected to a circuit that is regularly switched on and off by the utility.

  • Plastic film can be dangerous. To avoid danger of suffocation, keep away from children.
  • Do not plug in your vacuum cleaner UNTIL you are familiar with all instructions and operating procedures.
  • To reduce the risk of electrical shock, turn power switch off and disconnect polarized plug from electrical outlet BEFORE performing maintenance or troubleshooting checks.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • Keep appliance on a level surface.
  • If your appliance has a motorized Brush Roll, do not leave machine running in the same spot without the handle fully upright.

THIS APPLIANCE HAS A POLARIZED PLUG

To reduce the risk of electric shock, this appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). This plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to install a proper outlet. Do not change the plug in any way.

Assembly

  1. Push Hose Connector into Base Unit and secure with a click.
  2. Push Handle end into top of Extension Wand and secure with a click.
  3. Push bottom of Extension Wand into Foot and secure with a click.
  4. Press button on Extension Wand to adjust height.
  5. Connect desired tool to handle.

Using Your SmartClean® Vacuum

To reduce the risk of injury from moving parts while the vacuum is turned ON, always move the vacuum via the rolling wheels by using the upper handle at the back of the vacuum. Do not carry the vacuum while it is running. Always place vacuum on floor with handle in upright position when using tools.

  1. Press the button on the back left side of the unit to power the unit ON and OFF.
  2. Adjust suction power by pressing the buttons with the plus (+) or minus (-) symbol on them depending on the level of power you want.

Emptying the Dirt Tank

To reduce the risk of electric shock, turn Power Switch OFF and disconnect polarized plug from electrical outlet before performing maintenance or troubleshooting checks.

  1. Press Dirt Tank Release Button to remove the tank from the machine.
  2. Hold tank over trash bin and press the button on the bottom of the tank to release the tank door.

Cleaning the Filters

To reduce the risk of electric shock, turn Power Switch OFF and disconnect plug from electrical outlet before performing maintenance or troubleshooting checks. Do not operate vacuum with damp or wet filters or without all filters in place.

  1. With Dirt Tank removed twist the top counter-clockwise and pull up to remove.
  2. Remove foam filter from the tank lid.
  3. Remove felt filter from the tank lid.
  4. Both filters can be rinsed to clean. Leave to dry for 24 hours before replacing.
  5. Replace both filters making sure the flat felt filter is inserted first.
  6. Replace lid and turn clockwise to lock in place.
  7. Push tabs inward and pull out to remove back cover.
  8. Remove mesh filter from back cover.
  9. Mesh filter can be rinsed to clean. Let dry for 24 hours before replacing.
  10. Replace mesh filter in back cover. Make sure all 4 tabs are aligned with their slots in the filter.
  11. Remove pleated filter from back of machine.
  12. Pleated filter can be rinsed to clean. Let dry for 24 hours before replacing.
  13. Replace pleated filter.
  14. Reattach filter cover until it clicks into place.

Cleaning the Cyclonic System

To reduce the risk of electric shock, turn Power Switch OFF and disconnect plug from electrical outlet before performing maintenance or troubleshooting checks.

  1. Turn cyclonic system counter-clockwise to release and remove from the tank.
  2. Cyclonic system can be rinsed to clean. Let dry for 24 hours before replacing.
  3. Replace cyclonic system and turn clockwise to lock in place.

Clearing a Clog

  1. If there is a lack of suction, turn OFF the machine and lift up to access the plug on the bottom of the base. Press tabs inward to remove the plug.
  2. Use the handle of a broomstick or a similar shaped object to unclog and clear debris.
  3. Insert plug until it clicks into place.

Storing the Vacuum

  1. Connect T-shaped hook on the Foot to the T-shaped slot on the base for in-use storage positioning.
  2. Connect T-shaped hook on the Foot to the T-shaped slot on the bottom of the base for long term storage positioning.

Troubleshooting

To reduce the risk of electric shock, turn Power Switch OFF and disconnect plug from electrical outlet before performing maintenance or troubleshooting checks.
