Important Installation Information

Before installing the loudspeaker, review Important Safety Instructions on page 2.For fire and evacuation notification applications, environmentally rated to IP21C per EN 54-24.

Setup

Preparing the Input Cover

The input cover is designed for three different wiring scenarios. To change the configuration of the input cover to support your wiring scenario, cut along the perforation on the rubber conduit. Use one 1/2-inch to 1/2-inch threaded coupling and two 3/8-inch trade size conduit fittings for 1/2-inch knockouts (see diagram to the right). CAUTION: Do not use the wide-open wiring scenario when installing the input cover with a flexible conduit.Note: It is the installer’s responsibility to seal against water ingress into the Euroblock connector. Use outdoor or marine-grade silicone to seal all wiring connections to ensure a  tight seal.Note: Flexible conduits and couplings must be UL Listed, suitable for the application, and installed in accordance with the local authorities having jurisdiction.

Wiring the Loudspeaker

Wire GaugeThe FreeSpace FS2P loudspeaker is designed to work with 18 AWG (0.8 mm 2 ) to 14 AWG (2.1 mm 2 ) size wire only.

Connection DiagramsExpose six millimeters (1/4 inch) of the bare wire to attach to the terminals.Note: The loudspeaker is not rated for use with a rigid conduit. The loudspeaker is suitable for a  flexible conduit or wiring connection only.Note: Wiring method must be in accordance with: In Canada, CSA C22.1, Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, Safety Standard for  Electrical Installations, Section 32; In the United States, The National Electrical Code, NFPA 70, and the National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code, NFPA 72.

Installation

Preparing the Installation

Using a Safety CableSome regional construction codes require the use of a secondary method of securing loudspeakers to support structures to provide additional safety. Choose a mounting position, method, and hardware consistent with local building codes and regulations.Bose recommends using (1) a safety wire or (2) a safety cable as a secondary securing mechanism (not included). See the diagram to the right for safety attachment points.Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for any secondary securing mechanism implemented.

Mounting the Loudspeaker

  1. Insert the included suspension cable through the cable fastener and wrap the cable around a support structure; secure the cable using the cable fastener. Note: Arrows on the cable fastener indicate the cable direction.A. To loosen the cable, insert the fastener tool into the release hole and adjust the cable.
  2. Secure the cable clip to the loudspeaker suspension cable attachment point.
  3. Pull the loose end of the suspension cable to adjust the loudspeaker to the desired height. Once you’ve reached the desired loudspeaker height, cut away any excess cable.Note: Trim any frayed filaments with wire cutters after cutting to length.
  4. Insert the loudspeaker wiring through the rubber conduit of the input cover (see Preparing the Input Cover on page 4).
  5. Wire the connector and insert the connector into the loudspeaker. For wiring information, see Wiring the Loudspeaker on page 4.
  6. Place the input cover over the connector and press it firmly against the loudspeaker to create a tight seal. Secure the input cover using the input cover screw.
  7. Use the included cable ties to secure the wiring to the suspension cable.Note: Before attaching the grille, adjust the loudspeaker tap settings to the appropriate setting for the installation. See Loudspeaker Settings on page 4.
  8.  Line up the grille with the inside of the loudspeaker enclosure so that the two smallest grille tabs are on either side of the tap switch.Push the grille on the loudspeaker until it is secured into place. If necessary, push the grille tabs inward to properly fit into the loudspeaker enclosure.

Removing the Grille

Insert a small tool (no larger than 1.5 millimeters in diameter) through the grille perforation at the edge of the grille and pull to disengage the grille. CAUTION: Do not use a screwdriver to pry the grille from the enclosure. This could result in damage to the loudspeaker.
