Functions

VARIABLE TEMPERATURE CONTROL

The electronic control panel offers five different temperature settings for optimal tea and coffee brewing: 80°C , 85°C , 90°C , 95°C and 100°C.

GreenTea WhiteTea OolongTea Coffee BlackTea
80°C 85°C 90°C 95°C 100°C

NOTE

This product is not calibrated for commercial or scientific use. Temperatures may vary +/-3 °C degrees, being within range for optimal brewing for each type of tea or coffee.

OPTIMAL BREWING

Tea varieties are grown and produced in many different environments and require different water temperatures to allow their unique flavour and aroma to develop during brewing. To bring out the optimal quality and taste of more delicate tea leaves, a lower temperature will produce a better flavoured cup of tea. For example, steeping green, white or oolong teas in boiling water may scald the tea leaves and result in a bitter, astringent brew.

Brewing the tea for too long may also result in a bitter, unpleasant taste, while brewing for too short a period may leave the tea bland. For best results always follow the specific directions on the tea/coffee packet.

To bring out the optimal taste and quality of your favourite tea or coffee, we recommend that you use your Breville Smart Kettle™ Clear at the suggested temperature for your selected tea or coffee.

The Variable Temperature Control Table on Page 10 provides a guide to a range of tea and coffee varieties and the recommended temperature to select on the control panel of the Breville Smart Kettle™ Clear.

KEEP WARM FUNCTION

The Breville Smart Kettle™ Clear offers a convenient KEEP WARM function that can be used before, during or on completion of the water heating cycle. When the water has reached the selected Celsius temperature, the KEEP WARM function will hold the selected temperature for 20 minutes. If the 100° button is selected when using the KEEP WARM function, the boiled water will remain at approximately 95° Celsius for 20 minutes.

To activate the KEEP WARM function, first press the desired water temperature button, then press the KEEP WARM button, followed by the START/CANCEL button to commence heating the water. Alternatively, the KEEP WARM button can be activated at any time during the heating cycle and/or within one minute after the heating cycle has completed.

If the kettle is removed from the power base during the KEEP WARM function the kettle will automatically switch off.

NOTE

If temperature is changed during the KEEP WARM function, the START/CANCEL button surround will illuminate in red.

NOTE

This kettle must be used only with the power base supplied. Use caution when pouring water from your kettle, as boiling / heated water and steam will scald. Do not pour the water too quickly.

SAFETY BOIL DRY PROTECTION

The kettle is fitted with a safety device, which protects against overheating should the kettle be operated with insufficient water. If this occurs the kettle will stop heating. Switch the kettle off at the power point and allow kettle to cool before refilling. The safety device will automatically reset when the kettle has cooled down.

Care & Cleaning

Always switch off at the power outlet and unplug the appliance from the power outlet before cleaning

DESCALING

It is essential that regular descaling takes place. Frequency will depend on the usage of the kettle and the hardness of the water in your area. A build-up of scale may cause the inside of the kettle to discolour and ultimately may damage the element. This will affect the efficiency of the appliance and may invalidate the warranty agreement. We recommend the use of Breville Kettle Cleaner as it’s specially formulated for descaling kettles. To order visit www.breville.com.au

Directions for use:

  1. Add 60ml of Breville Kettle Cleaner to 1 litre of water.
  2. Fill kettle with mixture on a protected surface.
  3. Bring kettle to boil and let stand for 30 minutes.
  4. Clean spout by using a cloth dampened with Breville Kettle Cleaner, rub well. Then wipe off.
  5. Bring the kettle to boil for a second time, then empty solution.
  6. Fill kettle with fresh water and bring to the boil, discard boiled water. Now your kettle is ready to make your next cup of tea or coffee.

TO CLEAN THE EXTERIOR

The outside of the kettle should be wiped with a damp cloth then polished with a soft, dry cloth.

NOTE

Do not use chemicals, steel wool, or abrasive cleaners to clean the inside or outside of the kettle.

NOTE

Never immerse the kettle base, power base, power cord or power plug in water, or allow moisture to come in contact with these parts.

STORAGE

Ensure the kettle is switched off, clean and dry before storing. Ensure that the lid is closed and locked securely into place. Wrap the power cord around the power cord storage under the power base. Stand the kettle upright on the power base. Do not store anything on top.
