IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

When using electrical products, especially when children are present, basic safety precautions should always be followed. Read all instructions before using. Important information is highlighted by these terms:

DANGER: To reduce the risk of electrocution:

  1. Always unplug this product immediately after using.
  2. Do not use while bathing.
  3. Do not place or store product where it can fall or be pulled into a tub or sink.
  4. Do not place in or drop into water or other liquid.
  5. Do not reach for a product that has fallen into water. Unplug immediately.

WARNINGTo reduce the risk of burns, electrocution, fire or injury to persons:

  1. The product should never be left unattended when plugged in.
  2. Close supervision is necessary when this product is used by, on, or near children or physically incapacitated individuals.
  3. Use this product only for its intended use as described in this guide. Do not use attachments not recommended by the manufacturer.

  7. Never use while drowsy or asleep.
  8. Never drop or insert any object into any opening or hose.
  9. Do not use outdoors. This product is for indoor use only.
  10. Do not use in an oxygen enriched environment.
  11. Do not use this product with a DC to AC converter, or with any AC voltage and/or frequency other than specified.
  12. Do not operate unit in a backpack or carrying bag.
  13. Care should be taken when this product is used in the vicinity of other electronic equipment concerning the possible interference between them. They may need to be moved apart.
  14. Use caution when plugging in and unplugging device. Do not allow jewelry or other metal items to contact plug.
  15. Warning: This product contains small parts that may represent a choking hazard.

INTENDED USE

The DeVilbiss 8650D is used with a pneumatic nebulizer to administer humidified air or medication into the airways to treat respiratory disorders. The device is intended for home health care and institutional use. Users of this device are adult and pediatric patients with tracheostomies or suffer from asthma, cystic fibrosis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.NOTE—The DeVilbiss 8650D is to be used only when prescribed by a physician and operated in accordance with this guide.

8650D COMPRESSOR OPERATION

  1. Make sure the power cord is unplugged from wall-outlet power source.WARNINGExplosion Hazard. Do not operate in the presence of flammable anesthetics.
  2. Refer to Important Parts of Your 8650D Compressor for part identification.
  3. Place the 8650D compressor on a flat surface in a position allowing for adequate air flow from the rear of the device.CAUTION—During high-humidity weather conditions, condensation water build-up can occur in the internal motor hose of the compressor. It is recommended that the 8650D be turned on and run for two minutes before the nebulizer/tubing is connected to the compressor.
  4. For disposable nebulizer use, thread the optional tubing connector to either the compressor air outlet or optional extension tube, then attach one end of nebulizer tubing Figure 1 or Figure 2.
  5. For high output humidification, thread the bottle adapter directly to the extension tube air outlet Figure 3.
  6. Before plugging in the power cord, make sure the power switch is in the “Off” position by pressing on the bottom half of the switch Figure 4. Plug the power cord into a properly grounded wall-outlet power source.WARNINGGround reliability can only be achieved when the power cord is connected to an equivalent receptacle marked “Hospital Grade.”CAUTION—This model is designed to operate utilizing 115V, 60Hz. Do not attempt to operate this compressor on any other power source, as damage to the motor may result.
  7. To start the compressor, press the power switch “On.”NOTE—Cold temperatures may cause a delayed motor start-up. Should this occur, place the compressor in a warmer room until the unit reaches room temperature. Then press the power switch again.

Compressor PressureCompressor pressure may be increased by turning the pressure adjustment knob in a clockwise direction (knob must be pulled out to unlock) Figure 5. Pressure is decreased by turning the pressure adjustment knob in a counterclockwise direction. After adjusting the pressure as specified by your physician or the medication instructions, push adjustment knob to lock.NOTE—For continuous use, do not exceed 50 psig maximum pressure. Some units are equipped with a pressure relief valve that limits the output pressure to a maximum of approximately 70 psig. A popping sound will be heard if the pressure relief is activated. The valve will reset when normal operating pressure is reached.NOTE—In order for unit to register a correct pressure gauge reading, nebulizer/tubing must be connected to the compressor.

COMPRESSOR CLEANING

Be sure the power has been disconnected. Wipe the compressor cabinet with a clean cloth and any commercial disinfectant.CAUTION— Do not submerge in water, as compressor damage will result.CAUTION—Do not gas sterilize.

FILTER CLEANING/CHANGING

Your DeVilbiss 8650D compressor contains two filters:Fan Filter—The fan filter refines the air taken into the unit to cool the compressor. It is located on the back of the compressor cabinet Figure 6 and should be changed when deteriorated. During continuous use, it is recommended that the filter be cleaned weekly with warm soapy water, rinsed thoroughly, and dried completely.Air-Inlet Filter—This filter is located inside the cabinet and should be changed every 12 months or more often as indicated by environmental conditions. It should be serviced by a DeVilbiss Healthcare provider’s personnel or authorized service center.

MAINTENANCE

All maintenance must be performed by a DeVilbiss Healthcare provider or authorized service center.DANGERElectric shock hazard. Do not remove cabinet. All disassembly and maintenance must be done by a DeVilbiss Healthcare provider.

ONE-YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY ON COMPRESSOR PARTS

DeVilbiss Model 8650D Compressor is warranted to be free from defective workmanship and material for period of one year from date of purchase. Any defective part(s) will be repaired or replaced at DeVilbiss Healthcare’s option if the unit has not been tampered with or used improperly during that period. Make certain that any malfunction is not due to inadequate cleaning or failure to follow instructions. If repair is necessary, contact your authorized DeVilbiss Healthcare provider or DeVilbiss Healthcare Customer Service Department at 800-338-1988 (814-443-4881) for instructions.

NOTE —This warranty does not cover providing a loaner compressor, compensating for costs incurred in compressor rental while said unit is under repair, or costs for labor incurred in repairing or replacing defective part(s).

IMPLIED WARRANTIES, INCLUDING THOSE OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ARE LIMITED TO THE DURATION OF THE EXPRESS LIMITED WARRANTY AND TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW ANY AND ALL IMPLIED WARRANTIES ARE EXCLUDED.
