5MM Guitar Power Amplifier

Congratulations on your purchase of the 5MM guitar amplifier! The 5MM produces a formidable 2.5 watts and is small enough to fit in your pocket. The 5MM’s sweet sound and extreme portability will make it an integral part of any rig where a high powered amp is not required. The 5MM was designed with the guitar in mind and can be used alone, or with your favorite overdrive or preamp driving the input to the 5MM. The 5MM also sounds great with other instruments such as bass and keyboard. Please read this manual to learn the correct use of the 5MM.

WARNING: THE 5MM IS A POWER AMP, NOT AN EFFECTS PEDAL. Do not connect the output of the 5MM to the input of another amplifier, effects pedal, mixer, computer, computer interface or other similar device. Connect the output of the 5MM to an 8 -16 speaker cabinet ONLY.

CONTROLS and JACKS

VOLUME CONTROL - This knob controls the volume or loudness of the amplifier. As you turn the VOLUME knob clockwise, the 5MM’s output gets louder. At a certain point in the VOLUME knob’s travel, the output will start to overdrive, at this point you are beginning to exceed 2.5 Watts on your loudest notes. Turning the VOLUME knob further clockwise will produce a more overdriven sound which is the result of pure power amp saturation.

BRIGHT/NORM CONTROL - When engaged, the BRIGHT switch adds a subtle top boost or presence to your signal. When in the NORM position, the top boost is defeated.

INPUT Jack - Plug the output of your guitar, effects pedals or any other instrument into the INPUT jack using a standard ¼” instrument cable. The input impedance presented at the INPUT jack is 2 M.

8 - 16 Ω OUTPUT Jack – Connect the 5MM’s OUTPUT jack directly to a speaker cabinet. 8 16 only.

WARNING: NEVER CONNECT THE OUTPUT OF THE 5MM TO THE INPUT OF ANOTHER AMPLIFIER, AN EFFECTS PEDAL, MIXER, COMPUTER, COMPUTER INTERFACE OR OTHER SIMILAR DEVICE.

SPEAKER CABLE: We recommend using a speaker cable between the 5MM and speaker cabinet as you would with any power amplifier, though you can get away with using an instrument cable if in a pinch. The impedance of the speaker cabinet must be rated between 8 and 16 ( = ohms). 8 is the ideal load for the 5MM. Additionally the speaker cabinet must have a power rating equal to or greater than the 5MM’s output power capability. We recommend a speaker cabinet with at least a 10W rating.

POWER UP WARNING: Make sure the 5MM’s output is connected to a speaker cabinet before applying power.

9VDC/500mA POWER Jack - Connect the output plug from the 5MM’s supplied power supply to the power jack at the top of the unit. We highly recommend using the power supply that the 5MM was supplied with. The polarity of the power jack is center-negative.

WARNINGS (PLEASE READ!!!)

THE 5MM IS A POWER AMP, NOT AN EFFECTS PEDAL: Connect the output of the 5MM to a speaker cabinet only. DO NOT CONNECT THE OUTPUT OF THE 5MM TO THE INPUT OF ANOTHER AMPLIFIER, EFFECTS PEDAL, MIXER, COMPUTER, COMPUTER INTERFACE or similar device.

SPEAKER CABINET: Only plug the output of the 5MM into a speaker cabinet rated for an impedance in the range of 8 to 16 (8 to 16 ohms); the speaker cabinet power rating should be 10W or greater.

OUTPUT FIRST THEN POWER: Connect the output of the 5MM to a proper speaker cabinet before applying power to the 5MM. If you connect the 5MM to a speaker cabinet while it is powered up, the 5MM may automatically mute its output to prevent a short circuit on the output jack. In this situation simply remove power from the 5MM, wait a few seconds and then re-apply power to the 5MM, it should work normally.
