Product Information

This product is built to shred paper, CDs, DVDs, credit cards, and staples. It is not built to shred large paper clips, continuous forms, adhesive labels, transparencies, newspaper, cardboard or other plastic. Using it for these purposes is likely to cause irreparable damage.

A paper shredder is NOT a toy.DO NOT use flammable synthetic oil, petroleum-based products or aerosols of any kind on or near product at any time.DO NOT operate any electrical product with a damaged cord.AVOID getting jewelry, hair or loose clothing too close to feed slot as serious injury can occur.DO NOT handle plug or product with wet hands.KEEP children and pets away from the shredder.UNPLUG shredder when not in use.DO NOT attempt to feed more sheets of paper than specified on the feeder.DO NOT open shredder head to attempt repair: It could expose you to electric shock and will void your warranty.DO NOT attempt to shred materials other than paper.The socket-outlet shall be installed near the equipment and shall be easily accessible.ALWAYS empty the wastebasket prior to becoming full.DO NOT place shredder near heat or water source.

Setup

  • Check shredder for damage or defects; some particles of paper are normal due to product testing.
  • Plug the power cord into any easily reached standard outlet.
  • Switch the Main Power Switch (1) to the “ON” ( – ) position.
  • Press the Power button (2).
  • Place the allotted amount of paper into the shredder-up to 12 sheets.
  • CDs and DVDs are processed through separate slot (7).

Maintenance

Regular emptying of the basket is important to ensure the smooth operation of the cutting cylinders. The shredder will not operate when the basket is full. Regular oiling is also necessary for proper performance. It is recommended to use shredder oil every few weeks.

Troubleshooting

If you have a problem with your shredder, check the symptoms and remedies below. If you cannot solve the problem this way, contact Customer Service.Do not open shredder head to attempt repair: It could expose you to electric shock and will void your warranty

Symptom Remedy
Shredder does not start or stops while shredding. – Make sure shredder is plugged in, the Main Power Switch (1) is in the “ON” position (–), and the power button (2) has been pressed. The indicator light should be illuminated.– Check to see if bin is full. If bin is full, follow instructions under maintenance.– Wait 30 minutes for shredder to cool down before trying again.
Paper jam. A paper jam may occur if the sheet capacity is exceeded or if the paper is not put in straight. To clear a jam:1. Press the Reverse button (4) for about 5 seconds, then gently pull up on paper to remove from the slot.2. If the jam still does not clear, unplug shredder and carefully grasp the paper and pull out slowly.
Shredder squeaks, grinds or runs below capacity – Check to see if bin is full. If bin is full, follow instructions under maintenance.– Oil cutting cylinder.
Shredder continues to run for 2 or 4 seconds after shredding has been completed. – No action required. This is a self-cleaning function.

Limited Warranty

Limited Liability 1 Year WarrantyHoMedics sells its products with the intent that they are free of defects in manufacture and workmanship for a period of 1 year from the date of original purchase, except as noted below. HoMedics warrants that its products will be free of defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service. This warranty extends only to consumers and does not extend to Retailers.To obtain warranty service on your HoMedics product, mail the product and your dated sales receipt (as proof of purchase), postpaid, to the following address:

HoMedics does not authorize anyone, including, but not limited to, Retailers, the subsequent consumer purchaser of the product from a Retailer or remote purchasers, to obligate HoMedics in any way beyond the terms set forth herein. This warranty does not cover damage caused by misuse or abuse; accident; the attachment of any unauthorized accessory; alteration to the product; improper installation; unauthorized repairs or modifications; improper use of electrical/power supply; loss of power; dropped product; malfunction or damage of an operating part from failure to provide manufacturer’s recommended maintenance; transportation damage; theft; neglect; vandalism; or environmental conditions; loss of use during the period the product is at a repair facility or otherwise awaiting parts or repair; or any other conditions whatsoever that are beyond the control of HoMedics.This warranty is effective only if the product is purchased and operated in the country in which the product is purchased. A product that requires modifications or adoption to enable it to operate in any other country than the country for which it was designed, manufactured, approved and/or authorized, or repair of products damaged by these modifications is not covered under this warranty.

THE WARRANTY PROVIDED HEREIN SHALL BE THE SOLE AND EXCLUSIVE WARRANTY. THERE SHALL BE NO OTHER WARRANTIES EXPRESS OR IMPLIED INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS OR ANY OTHER OBLIGATION ON THE PART OF THE COMPANY WITH RESPECT TO PRODUCTS COVERED BY THIS WARRANTY. HOMEDICS SHALL HAVE NO LIABILITY FOR ANY INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR SPECIAL DAMAGES. IN NO EVENT SHALL THIS WARRANTY REQUIRE MORE THAN THE REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF ANY PART OR PARTS WHICH ARE FOUND TO BE DEFECTIVE WITHIN THE EFFECTIVE PERIOD OF THE WARRANTY. NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN. IF REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR DEFECTIVE MATERIALS ARE NOT AVAILABLE, HOMEDICS RESERVES THE RIGHT TO MAKE PRODUCT SUBSTITUTIONS IN LIEU OF REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT.

This warranty does not extend to the purchase of opened, used, repaired, repackaged and/or resealed products, including but not limited to sale of such products on Internet auction sites and/or sales of such products by surplus or bulk resellers. Any and all warranties or guarantees shall immediately cease and terminate as to any products or parts thereof which are repaired, replaced, altered, or modified, without the prior express and written consent of HoMedics. This warranty provides you with specific legal rights. You may have additional rights which may vary from state to state. Because of individual state regulations, some of the above limitations and exclusions may not apply to you.
