  • DO NOT operate where aerosol (spray) products are being used or where oxygenis being administered.
  • DO NOT reach for an appliance that has fallen into water. Unplug it immediately.
  • DO NOT place or store appliance where it can fall or be pulled into a tub or sink.

  • Check your air cleaner cord and plug connections. Faulty wall outlet connectionsor loose plugs can cause the outlet or plug to overheat. Be sure the plug fitstightly in the outlet.

  • Do not run cord under carpeting. Do not cover cord with throw rugs, runners orsimilar coverings. Do not route cord under furniture or appliances. Arrange cordaway from traffic areas where it can be tripped over.
  • To disconnect the air cleaner, first turn controls to the OFF position, then removeplug from outlet.
  • Do not tilt or move the air cleaner while it is in operation. Shut off and removeplug from outlet before moving.
  • Do not insert or allow foreign objects to enter any ventilation or exhaust openingas this may cause an electric shock or fire, or damage the air cleaner.
  • To prevent a possible fire, do not block air intakes or exhaust in any manner. Donot use on soft surface, like a bed, where openings may become blocked.

Main Features of the HoMedics Tower Air Cleaner

NOTE: This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider thanthe other). To reduce the risk of shock, this plug is intended to fit onlyone way in a polarized outlet. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet,reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician.DO NOT attempt to defeat this safety feature. To do so could result inan electric shock hazard.

Control Panel

Operating InstructionsTurning the Unit On• Take the air cleaner out of the box and remove the clear protective plastic bag.• Place the air cleaner on a firm level surface.• Before turning the air cleaner ON, you need to confirm that the filters are firmly inplace and did not become loose during shipping.

  1. To check filters, open the rear grill by  gently pushing down on the releasetab on the top of the rear grill. Fig. 1
  2. Open the plate outward until the tabsat the bottom of the grill plate easilyslide away from the unit. Fig. 2
  3. The HEPA filters will be resting insidethe unit. Make sure that the filters arefirmly seated inside of the unit. Fig. 3
  4. Place the tabs at the bottom of thegrill plate into the base of the unit.Gently push the grill plate back intoplace until you hear a click soundindicating that the grill is firmlylatched. Fig. 4Connect the power cord into astandard AC outlet.

NOTE: Unit will not operate unless filters and grill are properly installed.

1. On/Off and Speed Settings

  • To turn the air cleaner on, press the ON/OFF button on the control panel.When the air cleaner is on, the ON/OFF button on the control panel will be lit andthe air cleaner will start to operate on LOW speed.
  • Once the air cleaner is ON, press the SPEED+ button to increase the fan speedto the MED setting. Press again to increase the fan speed to HIGH setting. Todecrease the fan speed, press the SPEED– button until your desired setting isreached. The fan speed setting is indicated by the illuminated ring around the fansymbol.
  • To turn the air cleaner OFF, simply press the ON/OFF button on the control panel.

2. TimerThere are four possible timer settings: 2 (two) hours, 4 (four) hours, 8 (eight)hours, and 12 (twelve) hours. To activate the timer press the TIMER+ buttonon the control panel. Each time the + button is pressed, it will display thesuccessive settings. To return to a setting already passed, press the TIMER–button. Once a timer setting has been selected, it will remain displayed on theTIMER screen. To operate continuously, cycle down through all timer settingsuntil no timer setting is displayed.

3. OscillationTo activate the oscillation feature, press the button. To stop oscillation, pressthe button a second time. Unit will not automatically realign with foot whenoscillation is stopped. To achieve alignment, stop oscillation at the moment thebody becomes aligned with the foot.

4. UV-C BulbThe UV-C technology in this air cleaner kills germs, bacteria and viruses. Toactivate the UV-C bulb, press the UV-C button on the control panel. To turn theUV-C bulb off, press the button again.

5. Clean Filter IndicatorThe air cleaner is equipped with a CLEAN FILTER indicator to let you know whenit is time to clean the HEPA filters, about every 480 hours of use. When the HEPAfilters are ready to be cleaned, the CLEAN FILTER indicator will light up on thecontrol panel.If the air cleaner is used daily, we recommend cleaning the HEPA filters morefrequently.Once the HEPA filters have been cleaned, press and hold the CLEAN FILTERbutton until it beeps to reset the Indicator.

6. Using the Remote ControlBattery InstallationOne CR2025 3V battery is included with the remote control. To activate the remotecontrol, pull out the plastic tab protruding from the remote control housing. Tochange the battery, remove the battery door on the bottom of the remote by slidingthe tab and pulling the door away from the back of the remote. Insert the batteryinto the remote with the + symbol facing up as shown on the drawer.NOTE: Always keep the battery and remote control out of the reach of childrenand pets.

BATTERY NOTE

  • If the unit is not going to be used for a long period of time, remove batteriesto prevent damage due to possible battery leakage.
  • Clean the battery contacts and also those of the device prior to batteryinstallation.
  • Remove used batteries promptly.
  • Dispose of batteries properly in accordance with all local, state and federalregulations.
  • Do not dispose of batteries in fire. Batteries may explode or leak.
  • Use only CR2025 battery.
  • Incorrect battery installation may cause damage to remote.

Replacing HEPA FilterWith regular cleaning the life of the HEPA filter is approximately 12-18months under typical household usage and conditions. We recommendreplacing your filters every year. To purchase replacement HEPA filters,model # AR-OTFL, go back to your retailer (where you purchased your aircleaner), or visit www.homedics.com.After cleaning or replacing the HEPA filters, be sure to reset the filterindicator by pressing the CLEAN/RESET FILTER INDICATOR BUTTON forseveral seconds until an audible chime sounds and the light turns off.

Replace UV-C Bulb IndicatorThe UV-C Bulb is equipped with a REPLACE UV-C BULB indicator to let the userknow it is time to replace the bulb. When the bulb needs to be changed, theREPLACE UV-C BULB indicator will light up on the control panel. Once the UV-Cbulb has been replaced, press and hold the REPLACE UV-C BULB button until itbeeps to reset the indicator. To purchase a replacement UV-C bulb,model # PP-AROTUV, visit www.homedics.com.

Replacing the UV-C Bulb

  1. Unplug unit and allow bulb to cool.
  2. Open and remove the rear grill.
  3. Remove the upper HEPA filter.
  4. Use a screwdriver to remove two screws and detach the metal UV-C bulb cover.
  5. Grasp the UV-C bulb firmly and pull it from the bulb socket.
  6. Replace the new UV-C bulb and push it into the bulb socket.
  7. Replace the metal UV-C bulb cover.
  8. Replace the rear grill.

NOTE: UV-C bulb contains Mercury (Hg). Dispose of according to Local, State andFederal Law / www.lamprecycle.org

Cleaning the HEPA FiltersMake sure that the air cleaner is turned OFF and unplugged from the outlet beforecleaning.

  1. Open the rear grill by gently pushing    down on the tab on the top of the grillplate. Fig. 5
  2. Open the plate outward until the tabs atthe bottom of the grill plate easily slideaway from the unit. Fig. 6
  3. Remove the HEPA filters from the mainunit. Fig. 7Note: There are two HEPA filters in thisair cleaner.
  4. Use the brush attachment with yourvacuum cleaner. Run the attachmentalong both sides of the HEPA filters,cleaning thoroughly between theaccordion folds of the filters. Fig. 8
  5. Place the clean HEPA filters back in themain unit, making sure they are firmlyseated inside the unit. Fig. 9
  6. Place the tabs at the bottom of the grillplate into the base of the unit. Gentlypush the grill plate back into place untilyou hear a click sound indicating that thegrill is firmly latched. Fig. 10

DO NOT USE WATER OR ANY HOUSEHOLD CLEANERS OR DETERGENTSTO CLEAN THE HEPA FILTERS.

Cleaning and Maintenance TroubleshootingFor best performance, we recommend:

  • Vacuum the HEPA filters using the brush attachment of your vacuumcleaner once a month
  • NEVER use water or any household cleaners or detergents to cleanthe HEPA filters
  • Clean off the outside of the unit with a dry cloth once a month
  • NEVER use water, wax, polish, or any chemical solution to clean theoutside of the unit
  • Clean off the grill plate using a damp cloth or the brush attachmentof your vacuum once a month
  • NEVER use wax, polish, or any chemical solution to clean the grillplate
  • Replace the HEPA filters every 12-18 months
  • If you will not be using the air cleaner for an extended period oftime, please store in the box, or a cool, dry place.
