DANGER – To reduce the risk of electric shock:

Always unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet immediatelyafter using and before cleaning.

Do not pump flammable liquids through the water pump.
Do not use water above 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

Caution:The pump must be completely submerged in water. If thepump is making noises, most likely it is not completely submerged in water.

Caution:Only set the fountain and fountain parts on waterproof surfaces.

SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS

Caution – Please read all instructionscarefully before operating.

Never leave appliance unattended while operating the unit,especially if children are present.
Never cover unit when it is in operation.
Connect the pump only to 120 volt A/C household outlet asindicated on the pump label.
Always keep the cord away from high temperatures.
Unplug the water pump from the power source before cleaning,performing maintenance, or disassembling.
To get the most efficient flowing effect, product must be placed ona level and sturdy surface before using, and should not be placedon any type of electrical appliance.
Never let the water pump run without water. This will shorten thelife of the pump.
Operate with freshwater (tap water) only. The pump is notequipped to run with saltwater (sea water).
Operate pump completely submerged for proper cooling.
The electrical cord of this product cannot be replaced. If it sustainsdamage, you must stop using the appliance immediately andreturn it to the HoMedics Service Center for examination andrepair. (See the warranty section for HoMedics address).
Disconnect the appliance from the electrical outlet before puttinghands into water.

Assembly and Instructions for Use

Remove all contents from packaging and inspect to make sureall components have been received (Fig. 1):• Base with attached electrical cord and water pump• Fountain top• Polished river rocks
Wipe any dust off the interior and exterior of the base and topand rinse river rocks under water.
Familiarize yourself with the pump. The pump speed iscontrolled by the switch located at the front of the pump. Thespeed is indicated by a plus (+) and minus (-) sign. To increasethe speed, move the switch slowly to the left in the direction ofthe plus sign. You will hear a click as the switch moves to eachspeed level. At its highest speed level, the switch will cease tomove any further. To decrease the pump speed, move the switchto the right toward the minus sign. Similarly, at its lowest speed,the switch will cease to move any further (Fig. 2). NOTE: It is recommended the pump be set at itshighest speed during assembly and later adjustedto a lower setting if desired. Be sure to unplug thepump before adjusting the speed setting.
Place the fountain base on a sturdy, level surfacein the desired location, ensuring its electrical cordwill sufficiently reach an electrical outlet. Onceassembled, the fountain may be difficult to move due to splashing. Once in the desired location,lead the power cord attached to the base throughthe notch at the bottom of the base to ensure thebase sits level without wobbling. Do NOT plug inat this time (Fig. 3).
Add clean water to the base until the water levelis 1/2 – 3/4″ below the rim.
Connect the PVC tube to the pump, adjust thepump speed and place the fountain top on thebase (Fig. 4).
Place the fountain top onto the base and thenarrange the polished river rocks around thefountain top. (Be sure not to place any rocksinside the base of the fountain).
Plug the cord into a 120V household outlet. Onceplugged in, the fountain is turned on. The pumpmust be unplugged to be turned off.NOTE: If you can hear the pump gurgling or makingsounds, you have not added enough water to cover(submerge) the pump.
It will be necessary to add water occasionally dueto evaporation.NOTE: Always add water when fountain is “OFF”to avoid overflow.

Maintenance:

To clean the pump:Unplug the fountain from the electrical outlet. Remove thepump from the base of the fountain. Use a small brush orstream of water to remove any debris.
To keep water clean:Periodically change the water and clean the product accordingto the water condition. Keeping the water clean prevents thewater from becoming sticky and forming micro-organisms.An algaecide or humidifier/vaporizer treatment can be addedto help keep it clean.
To clean hard water deposits fromthe base or rocks:Soak the base and rocks in a mixture of vinegar and water toclean and remove any mineral build-up.
Keeping the water at an optimumlevel:Add water periodically to keep water level at an optimum levelto avoid shortening the life of the water pump. Fountainshould be “OFF” when refilling to avoid overflow.NOTE: Never let the water pump run without water.This will also shorten the life of the water pump.
Fountain Storage:When not in use for long periods of time, unplug the fountainfrom the electrical outlet, empty the water and store in a cool,dry place.

Caution:

All servicing of this fountain must be performed byauthorized HoMedics service personnel only

Attention:For best results, please operate pump completely submerged.Keep the water level above the minimum water level AT ALL TIMES.

Troubleshooting:

If the pump fails to operate, checkthe following:Check the household circuit breaker or plug unit into a different outlet to make sure the water pump is getting electrical power.NOTE: Always disconnect the unit from the electrical outletbefore handling the water pump.Check the water pump discharge and tubing for kinks andobstructions. Algae build-up can be flushed out in any faucet.Remove the water pump inlet to access the impeller area.Turn the rotor to ensure it is not broken or jammed.Monthly maintenance will add to the life of your water pump.NOTE: Make sure that the electrical cord loops below the electricaloutlet to form a “drip loop”. This will prevent water from runningdown the cord into the electrical outlet (Fig. 5).
If the pump is loud, gurgles, spews,or “burps”:Check the water level to make sure the water pump has enoughwater to function.NOTE: The pump must be completely submerged in water.
Obtaining a desired water level:Check the water level daily in the first week to measure the rate ofevaporation. Refill with water as needed.
If water is splashing outsidethe fountain:Rocks that are hit by water and also touch the edge of the base will cause water to splash outside of the base and contribute tothe splash factor. Expect some splash to occur as you get therocks organized.NOTE: If splashing continues, rearrange the rocks by movingthem away from the edge of the base. If this does not help,adjust the flow control valve to a lower setting.• If water is flowing unevenly:Check to see if the fountain is on a level surface. Then, run fingersacross fountain surface to help spread the water distribution.

Grounding Instructions

This product must be grounded. If it should malfunction or breakdown,grounding provides a path of least resistance for the electric currentto reduce the risk of electric shock. This product is equipped with acord having an equipment-grounding conductor and a groundingplug. The plug must be plugged into an appropriate outlet that isproperly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codesand ordinances.

DANGERImproper connection of the equipment-grounding conductor canresult in a risk of electric shock. Check with a qualified electricianor serviceman if you are in doubt as to whether the product isproperly grounded. Do not modify the plug provided with theproduct – if it will not fit the outlet, have a proper outlet installedby a qualified electrician.

This product is for use on a nominal 120-volt circuit, and has agrounding plug that looks like the plug illustrated in Figure A.A temporary adapter that looks like the adapter illustrated in Figure Bmay be used to connect this plug to a 2-pole receptacle as shown inFigure C if a properly grounded outlet is not available. The temporaryadapter should be used only until a properly grounded outlet Figure Ccan be installed by a qualified electrician. The green-colored tabextending from the adapter must be connected to a permanentground such as a properly grounded outlet box cover. Wheneverthe adapter is used, it must be held in place by a metal screw.See Figures D and E below
