When using your blood pressure monitor, basic precautions should always be followed. Please read and follow all instructions and warnings before using this product. Save these instructions for future reference.

Please note that this is a home healthcare product only and it is not intended to serve as a substitute for the advice of a physician or medical professional.
This device uses the oscillometric method to measure systolic and diastolic blood pressure, as well as heart rate.
Do not use this device for diagnosis or treatment of any health problem or disease. Measurement results are for reference only. Consult a healthcare professional for interpretation of pressure measurements. Contact your physician if you have or suspect any medical problem. Do not change your medications without the advice of your physician or healthcare professional.
Proper cuff size is critical for accurate measurements. Follow the instructions in this manual and printed on the arm cuff to ensure the appropriate size of cuff is being used.
This product is not suitable for people with arrhythmias. This device may have difficulty determining the proper blood pressure for pregnant women and for users with irregular heartbeat, diabetes, poor circulation of blood, kidney problems or for users who have suffered from a stroke.
Excessive use may result in blood overflow interference, which is likely to cause uncomfortable sensations, such as partial subcutaneous hemorrhage, or temporary numbness to your arm. In general, these symptoms should not last long. However, if you do not recover in time, please seek advice from a medical professional.
The pulse display is not suitable for checking the frequency of heart pacemakers.
Electromagnetic interference: The device contains sensitive electronic components. Avoid strong electrical or electromagnetic fields in the direct vicinity of the device (e.g. mobile telephones, microwave ovens). These may lead to temporary impairment of measurement accuracy.
Consider the electromagnetic compatibility of the device (ex. power disturbance, radio frequency interference etc.) Please use this device indoors only.
Use blood pressure monitor only for its intended use.
Do not wrap the cuff around body parts other than your arm.
Not for use by or on persons under the age of 18.
Do not use this device on infants, children, or those who cannot express their own intention.
Do not plug or unplug the adapter power cord with wet hands.
Please use only the AC adapter included with this monitor or 1.5V AA alkaline batteries for power supply. Blood pressure measurements determined with this device are equivalent to those obtained by a trained observer using the cuff/stethoscope auscultatory method, within the limits prescribed by the American National Standard, Manual, electronic, or automated sphygmomanometers.

ABOUT BLOOD PRESSURE

What is Blood Pressure?Blood pressure is the pressure exerted on the artery walls while blood flows through the arteries. The pressure measured when the heart contracts and sends blood out of the heart is systolic (highest) blood pressure. The pressure measured when the heart dilates with blood flowing back into the heart is called diastolic (lowest) blood pressure.

Why Measure Your Blood Pressure?Among today’s various health problems, those associated with high blood pressure are very common. High blood pressure dangerously correlates with cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, blood pressure monitoring is important for identifying those at risk.

BLOOD PRESSURE STANDARD

The table on page 6 contains defined levels for hypertension that are publicly available from the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) (http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/dci/Diseases/Hbp/HBP_WhatIs.html). Users can compare their own blood pressure readings against these defined levels to determine if they may be potentially at increased risk.

This table is applicable to most adults aged 18 and older.

Blood pressure tends to go up and down, even in people who normally don’t have high readings. If your numbers stay above the “normal” range most of the time, you may be at increased risk and should consult your physician.

Although one can easily find where their own blood pressure readings fall on this table, this monitor comes equipped with a Risk Category Index that automatically compares each reading to the defined levels and provides a helpful cue if your reading falls into one of the stages that could potentially indicate increased risk. See page 24 for more information on this feature.

Please note that cues provided by this monitor are only intended to assist you in using this table. The table and cues are only provided for convenience to help you understand your non-invasive blood pressure reading as it relates to the NIH information. They are not a substitute for a medical examination by your physician. It is important for you to consult with your physician regularly. Your physician will tell you your normal blood pressure range as well as the point at which you may actually be considered to be at risk.

HOW THIS BLOOD PRESSURE MONITOR WORKS

This monitor uses innovative technology to detect your systolic pressure, diastolic pressure and pulse. This technology enables the monitor to automatically inflate and deflate at the appropriate level for each individual. With one touch of a button, the cuff will automatically inflate to block the blood flow through your artery. Next, the deflation process starts. Please note that any muscle movement during inflation or deflation will cause measurement error. When measurement is complete, the monitor will display your systolic pressure, diastolic pressure, and pulse readings.

Before measurement, it is suggested that you sit quietly for 15 minutes before measurement as measurements taken in a relaxed state have greater accuracy. The Rest Assure function provides a helpful countdown of the last 5 minutes of this suggested time. Refer to page 14 for more information on this feature.

The Triple Check Measurement System automatically takes and averages three readings for accuracy you can trust. Refer to page 14 for more information on this feature.

The monitor automatically finds where your measurement results fall on the NIH’s National Heart Lung and Blood Institute’s table and provides a cue if your reading falls into one of the stages that could potentially indicate increased risk. Please refer to page 24 for more information on this feature.

The appearance of the IHB icon indicates that a pulse irregularity consistent with an irregular heartbeat was detected during measurement. Refer to page 25 for more information on the Irregular Heartbeat Detector.

NAME/FUNCTION OF EACH PART

DISPLAY EXPLANATIONS

Display Symbols:

If any of the following letters and numbers appear in the area that systolic pressure should be displayed, an error has occurred with your reading. See Troubleshooting section of this manual for more information.

INSTALLING BATTERIES

Press down on latch and lift the battery cover to open the battery compartment.
Install or replace 4 “AA ” sized alkaline batteries in the battery compartment according to the indications inside the compartment.
Close the battery cover by pushing in the top end of the battery door.

Replace the batteries if:

The weak battery symbol appears on the display.
Nothing appears on the display when the power is switched on.

As the supplied batteries are for test only, they may be discharged earlier than batteries you buy in stores. Replace all batteries at one time (as simultaneous set). Use only 1.5V “AA ” alkaline batteries. Remove batteries when unit is not in use for extended periods of time. Date and time will need to be reset if batteries are removed or replaced. Clean contacts on battery and in battery compartment with a soft dry cloth each time you install batteries.

Note:Batteries are hazardous waste. Do not dispose of them together with the household garbage.

USING THE AC ADAPTER

Connect the AC adapter with the AC adapter jack as shown below.
Please use only the AC adapter included with this monitor.

Note:

Please unload the batteries when operating with an AC adapter for an extended period of time. Leaving the batteries in the compartment for a long time maycause leakage, which may lead to damage to the unit.
No batteries are needed when operating with an AC adapter.
Date and time will need to be reset if AC adapter is unplugged and unit is without batteries.

DATE & TIME SET PROCEDURE

To adjust the date and time, press the DATE/TIME SET button .
The display will show a blinking number showing the YEAR. Change the YEAR by pressing the button. Each press will increase the number by one in a cycling manner. Pressing the button will decrease the number by one in a cycling manner. Press the DATE/TIME SET button Date Link again to confirm the entry, and the screen will show a blinking number representing the MONTH.
Change the MONTH, DAY, HOUR and MINUTE as described in Step 2 above, using the button/ button to change the numbers and the DATE/TIME SET button to confirm the entries.

(Please note that year does not appear on the display.)

USING REST ASSURE

This blood pressure monitor features the Rest Assure function. It is suggested you sit quietly for 15 minutes prior to measurement. The Rest Assure function will count down the last 5 minutes before automatically starting the measurement. To turn this feature OFF, slide the switch on the back to the OFF position.

USING TRIPLE CHECK MEASUREMENT SYSTEM

The Triple Check Measurement System automatically takes and averages three readings in a row, with 1 minute rest intervals in between each measurement. To deactivate this feature and take only a single reading, slide the switch on the back to the OFF position.

USING THE ARM CUFF

Very Important:Proper cuff size is critical to accurate measurement.This monitor comes with two sizes of arm cuffs:Standard Size Fits 9”–13” (23 cm – 33 cm)Large Size Fits 13”–17” (33 cm – 43 cm)The appropriate cuff is suitable for your use if the colored arrow falls within the solid color line as shown below.

If the cuff is not assembled, pass the end of the cuff furthest away from the tubing through the metal D-ring in order to form a loop. The smooth side without the felt material should be on the inside of the cuff loop.
Plug the cuff tube into the left side of the unit.
Open the arm cuff so that your arm may be placed through it.
Remove tight fitting clothing from your upper left arm so that the cuff can be wrapped around your exposed arm.
Position cuff edge 0.8-1.2 inches (2-3 cm) above elbow.
Center tube over middle of arm.
Pull the end of the cuff so that it tightens evenly around your arm. Press the hook and loop material together to secure. Allow room for 2 fingers to fit between the cuff and your arm.
Lay your arm on a table (palm upward) so the cuff is at the same height as your heart. Make sure the tube is not kinked.

Note:

This device should not be used when your arm is injured or wounded.
If it is not possible to fit the cuff on your left arm, it can also be placed on your right arm. However, all measurements should be made using the same arm.
To use on the right arm, you must position the artery symbol “ ” over the main artery. Locate the main artery by pressing with two fingers approximately 1” (2 cm) above the bend of your elbow on the inside of your right arm. Identify where the pulse can be felt the strongest. This is your main artery.

MEASUREMENT PROCEDURE

Important Notes:

Blood pressure changes with every heartbeat and is in constant fluctuation throughout the day.
Blood pressure measurement can be affected by the position of the user, his or her physiologic condition and other factors. For greatest accuracy, wait 1 hour after exercising, bathing, eating, drinking beverages with alcohol or caffeine, or smoking to measure blood pressure.
Before measurement, it is suggested that you sit quietly for 15 minutes as measurements taken during a relaxed state will have greater accuracy. You should not be physically tired or exhausted while taking a measurement.
During the measurement, do not talk or move your arm or hand muscles.
See page 31 for additional notes regarding your blood pressure measurement.

If you are using this blood pressure monitor for the first time, please remove the protective film from the screen.

Using Single Measurement Mode:

Please make sure the Triple Check measurement switch, located on the back of the unit, is in the OFF position.
Press the USER-SELECT button to choose User 1 or User 2.After the user number is selected, press the START/STOP button to confirm the chosen user.
With the cuff wrapped around your arm, press the START/STOP button. Do not inflate the cuff unless it is wrapped around your arm. All digits will light up to check the display functions. The checking procedure will be completed after about 3 seconds.Note:If the Rest Assure feature is ON, the 5 minute countdown will begin after the checking procedure is complete.
After all symbols disappear, the display will show “00”. The monitor is “Ready to Measure” and will automatically inflate the cuff to begin measurement. The cuff will start deflating as measurement continues.Note:This monitor will re-inflate automatically if the system detects that your body requires more pressure for measurement.
When the measurement is completed, the cuff will deflate entirely. Systolic pressure, diastolic pressure and pulse will be shown simultaneously on the LCD screen. The measurement is then automatically stored into memory.

Note:

This monitor automatically returns to standby mode approximately 30 seconds after last operation. You may also press the START/STOP button to return to standby mode.
To interrupt the measurement, you may press the START/STOP (recommended), MEM, USER- SELECT or DATE/TIME SET () buttons. The cuff will deflate immediately after a button is pressed.

Using Triple Check Measurement:

Please make sure the Triple Check measurement switch, located on the back of the unit, is in the ON position.
Press the USER-SELECT button. After the user number is selected, press the START/STOP button to confirm the chosen user.
With the cuff wrapped around your arm, press the START/STOP button. Do not inflate the cuff unless it is wrapped around your arm. All digits will light up to check the display functions. The checking procedurewill be completed after about 3 seconds.Note:If the Rest Assure feature is ON, the 5 minute countdown will begin after checking procedure is complete.
After all symbols disappear, the display will show “00”. The monitor is “Ready to Measure” and will automatically inflate the cuff to begin measurement. The cuff will begin deflating as measurement continues.Note:This monitor will reinflate automatically if the system detects that your body requires more pressure for measurement.
When the measurement is completed, the cuff will deflate entirely. Once the cuff is fully deflated, a 1 minute countdown will begin before starting the second measurement automatically. This process will continue until the end of the third measurement.Note:• If an ERROR code is displayed during measurement, the monitor will repeat the measurement up to 3 times during the consecutive measurement process.• Remain still until all 3 measurements are completed.
At the conclusion of the third measurement, the Triple Check average will be displayed.

To review your individual results that make the Triple Check average, press thebutton.

RISK CATEGORY INDEX

This monitor comes equipped with a Risk Category Index that automatically compares each reading to defined levels established by the U.S. National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) National Heart Lung and Blood Institute as described earlier in this manual, and provides a helpful cue if your reading falls into one of the stages that could potentially indicate increased risk. Please note that cues provided by this monitor are only intended to assist you in using this table. The table and cues are only provided for convenience to help you understand your non-invasive blood pressure reading as it relates to the NIH information. They are not a substitute for a medical examination by your physician. It is important for you to consult with your physician regularly. Your physician will tell you your normal blood pressure range as well as the point at which you may actually be considered to be at risk.

IRREGULAR HEARTBEAT DETECTOR (IHB)

The appearance of the IHB icon indicates that a pulse irregularity consistent with an irregular heartbeat was detected during measurement. Usually this is not a cause for concern. However, if the symbol appears often, we recommend you seek medical advice. Please note that the device does not replace a cardiac examination, but serves to detect pulse irregularities at an early stage.Movement, shaking or talking during the measurement can result in pulse irregularities that may cause the appearance of this icon. Therefore, it is of great importance to not move or talk during measurement.

To determine the presence of an irregular heartbeat, the average of the heartbeat intervals is calculated with the first 3 normal effective heartbeat values. It is important to note that the average is not a strict mathematical averaging of all recorded intervals. At least 3 beats with 25% or greater difference from the average heartbeat interval will generate the IHB icon on the screen.

Important Information:This blood pressure monitor is not designed for use by people with arrhythmias nor for diagnosing or treating an arrhythmia problem. As a safeguard, we recommend that if you have arrhythmias such as atrial or ventricular premature beats and atrial fibrillation or any other special conditions you should check with your physician before using your blood pressure monitor.

USING THE MEMORY FUNCTION

This monitor can be used by 2 users. Each user can store up to 120 measurements.This monitor features an advanced memory mode to provide you with a variety of options for reviewing your measurement history, including AM/PM Averaging. Reviewing your morning (AM) and nighttime (PM) blood pressures can provide important information about how your blood pressure changes throughout the day.

Note:A Triple Check average and the 3 measurements that make this average, count as 4 readings when stored in memory.

To use the memory function:

Press the USER-SELECT button to select User 1 or User 2.
Press the MEM button to access memory.
The monitor will first display the calculated average applied to the last 3 memories.

Note:

If the last 3 readings were a Triple Check average, then the Triple Check average will be displayed.
Memory averaging function will only average individual readings.

5. Every new press of the MEM button will recall a previous reading. The latest reading will be recalled first.Note:While reviewing the readings, the Triple Check Average icon may appear on the screen. Press the button to review individual readings that make up the Triple Check average.

CLEARING VALUES FROM MEMORY

Press the USER-SELECT button to select User 1 or User 2.
Press and hold the DATE/TIME and buttons () at the same time while mmHg in memory recall mode and the data for the selected user will be erased automatically. DIA.

USING YOUR DEVICE WITH MICROSOFT® HEALTHVAULT™

Rather than entering data manually into Microsoft® HealthVault™, this monitor allows you to automatically upload your measurement data into a personal HealthVault™ account if desired. In HealthVault™, you can store your data and track your progress.

HealthVault™ is a free, privacy- and security-enhanced online Microsoft® service that puts you in control of your health information. HealthVault™ lets you store health information from many sources in a single location so that it’s always organized and available to you online. With HealthVault™, you can upload data from health and fitness devices and share your health information with your physicians and others you trust.

Connecting blood pressure monitor to computerTo download results to Microsoft® HealthVault™, the blood pressure monitor needs to be connected to a computer. This is done through a standard mini-b USB cable (included).

Connect the small end of the cable to your blood pressure monitor and the large end of the cable to the USB port on your computer. When connected properly, the monitor’s display will show

IMPORTANT NOTES REGARDING YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE MEASUREMENT

Take your reading in a comfortable environment as measurements can be affected by hot or cold temperatures. Take your blood pressure at normal body temperature.
Do not move or talk during measurement as this can elevate readings.
Do not move or cross legs during measurement. Keep feet flat on the floor.
Do not touch the cuff or monitor during the measurement procedure.
It is suggested that you take your measurements at the same time each day and use the same arm for consistency.
Users should wait a minimum of 5 minutes before taking additional measurements. More time may be necessary depending upon your physiology.
The measurement results that users receive are for reference only. If users have any blood pressure concerns, please consult a physician.
Once inflation reaches 300 mmHg, the unit will deflate automatically for safety reasons.
This product is not suitable for people with arrhythmias.
This device may have difficulty determining the proper blood pressure for pregnant women and for users with an irregular heartbeat, diabetes, poor circulation of blood, kidney problems, or for users who have suffered a stroke.

CARE, MAINTENANCE & CLEANING

Clean the blood pressure monitor body and cuff carefully with a slightly damp, soft cloth. Do not press. Do not wash cuff or use chemical cleaner on it. Never use thinner, alcohol or petrol (gasoline) as cleaner.
Leaky batteries can damage the unit. Remove the batteries when the unit will not be used for a long time.
Follow local ordinances and recycling instructions regarding disposal or recycling of the device and device components, including batteries.
If the unit is stored near freezing, allow it to acclimate to room temperature before use.
This blood pressure monitor is not field serviceable. You should not use any tool to open the device nor should you attempt to adjust anything inside the device. If you have any problems with this device, please contact HoMedics Consumer Relations (contact information can be found on the warranty page).
Do not immerse the unit in water as this will result in damage to the unit.
Do not subject the monitor or cuff to extreme temperatures, humidity, moisture, or direct sunlight. Protect from dust.
Do not fold the cuff and tubing tightly.
Do not disassemble the monitor or cuff. If in need of repair, refer to the warranty section of this manual.
Do not subject the monitor to extreme shocks (do not drop on floor).
Do not inflate the cuff unless wrapped around arm.
Do not wrap the cuff around body parts other than your arm.
Do not drop or insert any object into any opening or hose.
To avoid accidental strangulation keep this product away from children. Do not drape tube around neck.

HoMedics sells its products with the intent that they are free of defects in manufacture and workmanship for a period of five years from the date of original purchase, except as noted below. HoMedics warrants that its products will be free of defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service.

This blood pressure monitor meets the simulated measurement cycles test requirement per EN1060-3, part 8.10. This warranty extends only to consumers and does not extend to Retailers.To obtain warranty service on your HoMedics product, contact a Consumer Relations Representative by telephone at 1-800-466-3342 for assistance. Please make sure to have the model number of the product available.

HoMedics does not authorize anyone, including, but not limited to, Retailers, the subsequent consumer purchaser of the product from a Retailer or remote purchasers, to obligate HoMedics in any way beyond the terms set forth herein. This warranty does not cover damage caused by misuse or abuse; accident; the attachment of any unauthorized accessory; alteration to the product; improper installation; unauthorized repairs or modifications; improper use of electrical/power supply; loss of power; dropped product; malfunction or damage of an operating part from a failure to provide manufacturer’s recommended maintenance; transportation damage; theft; neglect; vandalism; or environmental conditions; loss of use during the period the product is at a repair facility or otherwise awaiting parts or repair; or any other conditions whatsoever that are beyond the control of HoMedics.
