INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

APPLICATION

The C7735A1000 Duct Air Temperature Sensor (DATS) is a duct-mounted temperature probe used to sense discharge air temperature in zoning applications for high and low-temperature limit protection. Alternatively, it is used with certain thermostats for delta-T diagnostics and IAQ control. For more on these applications, please see the installation instructions for those products.

INSTALLATION

When Installing this Product...

  1. Read these instructions carefully. Failure to follow them could damage the product or cause a hazardous condition.
  2. Check the ratings given in the instructions and on the product to make sure the product is suitable for your application
  3. Installer must be a trained, experienced service technician
  4. After completing the installation, use these instructions to check out the product operation.

IMPORTANTDo not locate the DATS probe in a duct near the heat exchanger or strip heat, which can cause false temperature readings. It is recommended to set the high limit approx. 15°F below the furnace high limit. Some modern furnaces have low-high limit settings, so if the DATS is used with a zone panel, make sure the correct zone panel is selected for the equipment. The HZ221 zone panel is for heat pumps only and has a fixed high limit (120°F for heat pump. 160°F for aux heat) and low limit (45°F). The HZ311 has a fixed high limit (160°F) and low limit (45°F). The HZ322 & HZ432 zone panels have an adjustable high limit (110°F-180°F) and low limit (30°F-60°F).

  1. Assemble the DATS by attaching the metal sensor probe to the plastic cap. Insert the plate of the probe into the two tabs on the inside bottom of the cap. Then rotate the plate clockwise until it clicks into the single top tab.
  2.  Locate the DATS on the supply trunk between the bypass damper and the evaporator coil and/or heat exchanger. If a bypass damper is not used, locate the DATS between the zone dampers and the evaporator coil and/or heat exchanger. See Fig. 2.Fig. 2. DATS mounting location.
  3. Drill a 1/4 in. hole in the duct at the location selected for the sensor.
  4.  Attach wire using wire nuts and push them into the cover, then insert the probe into the hole drilled in step 2.5. Secure the DATS to the side of the duct, through the two mounting holes, with the screws supplied.
  5. Secure the DATS to the side of the duct, throughthe two mounting holes, with the screws supplied.IMPORTANTUse 18-22 gauge thermostat wire for shorter runs. For longer runs or when wiring near voltage, use shielded cable.
  6.  Run a wire to zone panel or thermostat. See zone panel or thermostat installation instructions.
