SPECIAL NOTE

This system is equipped with non-skid rubber `feet’ to prevent the product from moving when you operate the controls. These `feet’ are made from non-migrating rubber material specially formulated to avoid leaving any marks or stains on your furniture. However certain types of oil based furniture polishes, wood preservatives, or cleaning sprays may cause the rubber `feet’ to soften, and leave marks or a rubber residue on the furniture. To prevent any damage to your furniture we strongly recommend that you purchase small self-adhesive felt pads, available at hardware stores and home improvement centers everywhere, and apply these pads to the bottom of the rubber `feet’ before you place the product on fine wooden furniture.

Now it’s time to consider how you can maximize the fun and excitement your equipment offers. One that lets the sound come through loud and clear without annoying blaring or distortion and, most importantly, without affecting your sensitive hearing. Sound can be deceiving. POWER SOURCE

This unit is designed to operate using the included AC-AC adaptor or using 3 X “C” (UM-2) batteries (not included).

  1. Battery Operation1. Open the Battery Door on the back of the radio.2. Following the polarity diagrams shown in the battery compartment, insert 3 ‘C’ (UM-2) batteries (Not included) and close the battery door.Note: For optimum performance, alkaline-type batteries are recommended.3. Press the Power On/Standby CI) button to turn on the unit for operation.WARNING:– Be sure that the batteries are installed correctly. Wrong polarity may damage the unit.– Do not mix old and new batteries.– Do not mix alkaline, standard (carbon-zinc) or rechargeable (nickel-cadmium) batteries.– Only batteries of the same or equivalent type as recommend are to be used.– If the unit is not to be used for an extended period of time, remove the battery. Any old or leaking battery can cause damage to the unit and may void the warranty.– Do not dispose of batteries in fire, batteries may explode or leak.– Do not try to recharge batteries not intended to be recharged; they can overheat, rupture and leak (Follow battery manufacturer’s directions).
  2. AC Adaptor Operation1. Plug the included AC adaptor (output: 5 V AC, 400 mA ) into the AC IN jack located on the side of the unit.2. Plug the AC adaptor into an 120V AC, 60Hz household outlet.3. Press the Power On/Standby button to turn on the unit for operation.Note: If batteries are installed, they will automatically be disconnected when the plug is inserted into the unit.

LOW BATTERY INDICATORWhen using battery power to operate this unit and the battery power becomes weak, the low battery icon will appear on LCD display. You are recommended to replace the exhausted dry cell batteries immediately.

STANDBY MODE

Standby Mode is when the unit is first plugged into an AC power source or when batteries are first installed (display shows “12:00”), or after all the settings have been made and the time is showing on the display. The radio is off, no buttons are pressed and no weather alarms are sounding.

CLOCK SETTING

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please read over the instructions prior to setting the time. The unit will automatically save the settings and exit the time set mode if you do not press any buttons within 10 seconds during the time set process.When the unit is in standby mode:

  1. Press and hold the TIME SET button for 2 seconds to enter clock setting mode, hour digits flashing.
  2. Tap the TIME+ (UP) / TIME- (DOWN) button repeatedly to set the hour value. Press and hold the buttons to speed up the forward or reverse scanning of the digits. Note: Make sure the hour is set so that the AM or PM indicators are displayed correctly.
  3. Press the TIME SET button after the hour is set, Minute digits flashing to prompt for input.
  4. Tap the TIME+ (UP) / TIME- (DOWN) button repeatedly to set the minute value. Press and hold the buttons to speed up the forward or reverse scanning of the digits.
  5. Press the TIME SET button again to finish clock setting.Note: You will need to reset the clock if the unit is reset, or if you are using battery power and the batteries become weak or exhausted.

LISTENING TO THE RADIO

  1. Press the Power On/Standby button to turn on the unit, LCD backlight turns on.
  2. Tap the AM or FM button to select the AM or FM band, the radio mode indicator displays.
  3. To manually tune to a desired station, repeatedly tap the TUNE+ / – button.
  4. To automatically search for stations with strong signals, press and hold the TUNE+ / – button until the frequency digits on display begins to scan then release the button. The tuner will stop on the first strong signal it finds.
  5. Rotate the volume control to obtain the desired sound level.
  6. Press the  button on main unit to turn unit into standby mode after listening. The LCD backlight will automatically turn off after 15 seconds.Notes:– Manual tune to select weaker stations that might be skipped during automatic tuning.– If the automatic tuning does not stop on the exact frequency of the station, for example, it stops on 88.9 MHz instead of 88.8 MHz, use the manual tuning method to “fine tune” to the exact frequency of the desired station.– In power on mode, the LCD backlight will automatically turn on as default. Tap the Dimmer button repeatedly to select bright, dim or backlight off.

HINTS FOR BEST RECEPTION:– The AM antenna is located inside the cabinet of the unit. If AM reception is weak, change the position of unit until the internal antenna picks up the strongest signal.– To insure maximum FM tuner reception, the Telescopic Antenna should be fully extended and rotated to obtain the best possible station reception.Radio Station PresetsThe unit allows you to store up to 10 AM and 10 FM stations for easy recall at any time.

Setting Preset Stations

  1. Press the  button to turn on the unit.
  2. Tap the AM or FM button to select AM or FM radio mode.
  3. Tune to the radio station you want to store in memory by using the TUNE+/- buttons.
  4. Press and hold the memory MEM button, the preset channel number “P01” appears on display and location number “01” blinks.
  5. To select desired preset station number, tap the P+ or P- button.
  6. To confirm preset location, tap the MEM button.
  7. Repeat steps 3 to 6 to store other stations if necessary.Notes:– There is an approximate 10 seconds delay when programming, after 10 seconds, the unit will automatically save the preset and switch back to normal tuner mode.– You can overwrite a preset station by overwriting and storing the new frequency in its place.

Recalling a Preset Station

  1. Tap the  button to turn on the unit.
  2. Tap the AM or FM button to select AM or FM radio receiving mode.
  3. To select desired preset channel, tap the P+ or P- button repeatedly.

LISTENING TO A WEATHER CHANNEL

  1. Weather Band1. Press the button to turn on the unit.2. Tap the WB button to select weather band. The “WB” icon appears on the display above the weather band channel frequency.3. Tap the TUNE + / – button to select your local weather broadcasting.4. Rotate the VOLUME control to obtain the desired sound level.5.     Note: With regard to the NOAA Weather Band: You need to identify which channel/frequency receives your local weather band report. When you change locations either to another city or state, you may need to choose a different band to get the local report in that location.HINTS FOR BEST RECEPTION:– To insure maximum weather band reception, the Telescopic Antenna should be fully extended and rotated to obtain the best possible station reception.

  2. RECEIVING AN EMERGENCY WEATHER ALERTThe Weather Alert function allows you to set the weather radio to a standby mode that will turn the radio on automatically if there is a severe weather emergency in your area. To receive emergency weather alert warnings, turn the unit on, tune to the strongest local NOAA weather channel, adjust the volume to a level that you will hear when an alert is received. The radio remains silent until an “alert” broadcast occurs.IMPORTANT: It’s recommended that you use the AC adaptor to power the radio when you use the Weather Alert feature.1. Press the  button to turn on the unit.2. Tap the WB button to select weather band. The “WB” icon appears on the display above the weather band channel frequency3. Tap the TUNE + /- button to select your local weather station.4. Tap the WB ALERT button to enter Weather Alert standby mode. The radio will turn off and “ALERT” appears on the display above the clock.5. The unit will turn on automatically when there is an alert message from the National Weather Service. The “ALERT” icon on the display and the ALERT LED will be flashing to let you know an emergency broadcast was received.6. Tap the WB Alert button again to turn off flashing Alert LED and “ALERT” icon.7. Tap the AM, FM or WB button to turn off the NOAA Alert.

The Weather Alert feature is available when powering the unit using the included AC adaptor or battery power (batteries not included).Note:1.) The radio will continue to drain the battery if it’s left in Weather Standby Mode, so it is highly recommended that you use the included AC-AC adaptor to prevent the battery from completely draining and turning the radio off while in use. See the POWER SOURCE section above for more information on the AC-AC adaptor.2.) NOAA Weather band is a service broadcast of the U.S. Government and available in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.3.) The NOAA Weather Service broadcasts a test alert every Wednesday between 11 am and Noon. NOAA ALERT INDICATOR

Weather Alert LED/IconNOAA Alert mode– Red alert LED on front panel and Alert icon on the LCD will be on in weather alert mode.– Red alert LED on front panel and Alert icon on LCD will flash when a weather alert signal is detected

DIMMER

  • The dimmer feature is only available when the radio is ON. Tap the DIMMER button to select bright, dim or off for the display.
  • When in standby mode, tap the DIMMER button to temporarily light the display for 10 seconds.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

  1. Do not subject the unit to excessive force, shock, dust or extreme temperature.
  2. Do not tamper the internal components of the unit.
  3. Clean your unit with a damp (never wet) cloth. Solvent or detergent should never be used.
  4. Avoid leaving your unit in direct sunlight or in hot, humid or dusty places.
  5. Keep your unit away from heating appliances and sources of electrical noise such as fluorescent lamps or motors.CAUTION: Never allow any water or other liquids to get inside the unit while cleaning.Resetting the UnitIf the unit experiences a power surge or electric shock, it’s possible that the internal micro-controller may lock up and the unit will not respond to any commands from the panel controls. If this occurs, unplug the AC adaptor & remove all batteries, wait 60 seconds and reinstall all batteries and reconnect AC adaptor power. This should reset the unit and clear the system memory. The time and previously set memory settings will also be reset, so you will need to reenter those.

You must pay all shipping charges required to ship the product to SPECTRA for warranty service. If the product is repaired or replaced under warranty, the return charges will be at SPECTRA’s expense.
