IMPORTANT NOTEAvoid installing the unit in locations described below:

ON PLACEMENT

ON SAFETY

  • When connecting and disconnecting the AC power, grip the AC cord plastic plug and not thecord itself. Pulling the cord may damage it and create hazard.
  • When you are not going to use the unit for a long period of time, disconnect the AC power cord from the wall outlet and remove all batteries.

ON AC VOLTAGE

  • Before use, check that the rated voltage of your unit matches your local voltage.

ON CONDENSATION

  • When left in a heated room where it is warm and damp, water droplets or condensation may form inside the CD player.
  • When there is condensation inside the unit, the unit may not function normally.
  • Let it stand for 1 to 2 hours before turning the power on, or gradually heat the room up and dry the unit before use.

Should any trouble occur, disconnect the AC power cord and refer servicing to qualified personnel.

PROTECT YOUR FURNITURE

This model is equipped with non-skid rubber ‘feet’ to prevent the product from moving when you operate the controls. These ‘feet’ are made from non-migrating rubber material specially formulated to avoid leaving any marks or stains on your furniture. However certain types of oil-based furniture polishes, wood preservatives, or cleaning sprays may cause the rubber ‘feet’ to soften, and leave marks or a rubber residue on the furniture. POWER SOURCES

This unit operates on 120V~ 60Hz or 8 x DC1.5V “D” (UM-1) batteries (not included). Do not attempt to operate the unit on any other power source. You could cause damage to the unit and void your warranty.Please be sure the power outlet you plug this unit into is working and receives constant (unswitched) power.AC OPERATIONPlug the detachable AC cord into a standard AC outlet (120V~60Hz).

  1. When the AC power cord (included) is connected to the AC Power Socket on the back of the unit and the other end is plugged into a 120V AC~ 60Hz wall  outlet, the unit will disconnect the batteries automatically, and operate on AC Power only.
  2. Slide the FUNCTION SWITCH to “CD” position for CD play, AUX for AUX IN play, “RADIO” for AM/FM radio, “TAPE/OFF” for cassette recorder play or for turning the power OFF.

WARNING:

  • Before connecting to the power outlet, ensure that the outlet corresponds to the information on the rating label at the back of the apparatus.

BATTERY OPERATION

  1. Remove the BATTERY DOOR.
  2. Install 8 x DC1.5V “D” (UM-1) batteries (not included) according to the polarity diagram inside the battery compartment.Note: For best performance, alkaline-type batteries are recommended.
  3. Replace the BATTERY DOOR.

IMPORTANT: Be sure that the batteries are installed correctly. Wrong polarity may damage the unit and void the warranty.

BATTERY NOTE AND CARE

  1. Danger of explosion if the battery is replaced incorrectly. Replace only with the same or equivalent type
  2. Do not mix old and new batteries.
  3. Do not mix alkaline, standard (carbon-zinc) or rechargeable (nickel-cadmium) batteries.
  4. If the unit is not to be used for an extended period of time, remove the batteries. Old or leaking batteries can cause damage to the unit and may void the warranty.
  5. Do not try to recharge batteries not intended to be recharged; they can overheat and rupture. (Follow battery manufacturer’s directions).
  6. Do not dispose of batteries in fire, batteries may leak or explode.

BATTERY REPLACEMENTWhen the output sound of this unit becomes distorted or the CD player operation appears unstable, the batteries are weak. You need to replace all the exhausted batteries at the same time as soon as possible to avoid battery leakage.

LISTENING TO RADIO

  1. Slide the FUNCTION SWITCH to RADIO position.
  2. Slide the AM/FM switch to select band.
  3. Rotate the TUNING CONTROL KNOB to your desired radio station according to the DIALSCALE on the knob.
  4. Rotate the VOLUME CONTROL KNOB to adjust to the desired volume level.
  5. To turn off the radio, slide the FUNCTION SWITCH to the “TAPE/OFF” position.

TIPS FOR BEST RECEPTIONAM – The AM antenna is located inside the cabinet of the unit. If AM reception is weak, change the position of unit until the internal antenna picks up the strongest signal.FM – If a stereo broadcast program is received, the unit will automatically switch to stereo mode and you will hear the stereo broadcast. Always keep the FM  TELESCOPIC ANTENNA fully extended for best performance. If the FM reception is weak, try adjusting the antenna or try repositioning the unit near a window until you get the best reception.

CD OPERATION

PLEASE READ THIS IMPORTANT INFORMATION:The CD mechanism used in devices like this are designed to fully read all commercial CDs. They will also read self-compiled CD-R/CD-RW and MP3 CD discs, but it may take up to 10 seconds for playback to start. If playback does not start, it is likely due to the quality of the CD-R/RW disc and/or the compatibility of the CD compilation software. The manufacturer is not responsible for the playback quality of CD-R/RW discs.Do not attach a label or seal to either side of CD-R/CD-RW and MP3 CD discs you make yourself. It may cause a malfunction.

PLAYING A CD

  1. Slide the FUNCTION SWITCH to the “CD” position.
  2. Press the CD door EJECT button to open the CD DOOR, load a CD with the label side facing outward and then close the CD door.
  3. Disc information (total number of tracks) will appear on the LCD DISPLAY.
  4. Press the PLAY/PAUSE BUTTON to start playing the CD, the PLAY/PAUSE INDICATOR “” will light steadily.
  5. While playing, press the PLAY/PAUSE BUTTON to pause, the PLAY/PAUSE INDICATOR “” will flash. Press PLAY/PAUSE BUTTON again to resume playing.
  6. Adjust the VOLUME CONTROL KNOB to the desired volume level.
  7. Press STOP BUTTON to stop playing.
  8. To turn off the unit, slide the FUNCTION SWITCH to “TAPE/OFF” position.

NOTE: If skipping occurs during CD play, try turning the volume down. Do not open the CD DOOR when a CD is playing or spinning.

PLAY MODERepeat 1When the PLAY MODE BUTTON is pressed once, the “REPEAT 1” INDICATOR will appear in LCD display. The current track will be repeated until it is interrupted.

Repeat AllWhen the PLAY MODE BUTTON is pressed twice, the “REPEAT ALL” INDICATOR will appear in LCD display. The whole disc will be played continuously.

RANDOM PLAY:When the PLAY MODE BUTTON is pressed third time, the random play icon “RANDOM” will show on the display. The tracks in the disc will be played in random sequence.

To Cancel the Repeat or Random Function: Press the PLAY MODE BUTTON repeatedly until the repeat and random icons turn off on the display.

SKIP AND SEARCH MODE

  1. During Play or Pause mode, tap the SKIP FORWARD “” or SKIP BACKWARD “” BUTTON to go to the next track or go back to the beginning of the current track.
  2. During play mode, press and hold the SEARCH FORWARD “” or SEARCH BACKWARD “” BUTTON to search within the current track with audible high speed playback.

PROGRAM PLAY MODEThis function allows music tracks to be played in a programmed sequence.NOTE: Program can only be set in STOP mode.

  1. Press the PROGRAM BUTTON once. “01” in the LCD DISPLAY and “PROGRAM” INDICATOR both will flash.
  2. Press the SKIP FORWARD “” or SKIP BACKWARD “” BUTTON to select the track to be programmed.
  3. Press the PROGRAM BUTTON again to store the selection. The LCD DISPLAY will advance to “02” and flash to prompt for the next input.
  4. You may repeat steps #2 to #3 to program up to 20 tracks.
  5. Press the PLAY BUTTON to complete and start program play. The PROGRAM INDICATOR will appear in LCD display. Press the STOP BUTTON to stop.
  6. Normally all the programmed tracks will be played through once and then stop. However, you may use the REPEAT function to repeatedly play a certain  track (Repeat 1) or all tracks in the program (Repeat All). You may also tap SKIP Forward “” BUTTON to go directly to other tracks ahead or use SKIP  BACKWARD “” BUTTON to go back to previous track(s) during program play.
  7. To cancel program play, press the STOP BUTTON twice while program playback is running or open the CD DOOR in stop mode. The PROGRAM INDICATOR will go off.

TAPE OPERATION

LISTENING TO TAPE

  1. Press the Cassette STOP/EJECT button to open the Cassette Door and insert a pre- recorded cassette tape with the exposed tape facing outwards. Push  down on the Cassette Door to close it.
  2. Slide the FUNCTION SWITCH to “TAPE” position, press the Cassette PLAY button to start playback and adjust the Volume Control Knob to obtain the desired sound level.
  3. Press the Cassette FAST FORWARD button or the Cassette REWIND button to rapidly advance or rewind the tape.
  4. Press the Cassette PAUSE button to pause the playback, press it again to resume the playback.
  5. Press the Cassette STOP/EJECT button to stop operation.

AUTOMATIC STOPTo protect your cassette tapes and prevent unnecessary wear to the pinch roller of the cassette mechanism, this unit is equipped with an Automatic Stop System.  When the tape ends during play, the Cassette Play button will automatically release to stop the cassette from running.

CONTINUOUS PLAYBACK OF TWO CASSETTES

  1. Insert prerecorded tapes into both cassette compartments with the tape you want to play first in DECK B.
  2. Press the PLAY button of DECK B to begin playback.
  3. Press the PAUSE button and then PLAY button of DECK A.
  4. When the tape in DECK B ends, it stops and the PAUSE button of DECK A will release and automatically begin playback of DECK A.

NOTE: Continuous playback will not function if you play the tape in DECK A first.

RECORDING (CASSETTE DECK A Only)This cassette recorder features an Automatic Recording Volume Level Control System that prevents overloaded or distorted recordings. You can change the volume level as often as you like during the recording process. It will not have any effect on the volume level of the recording itself. Insert a good quality blank  tape into DECK A with the exposed tape facing down and the full reel on the left side. Close DECK A door.

A. RECORDING FROM TAPE (DECK B TO DECK A)This unit enables you to duplicate a pre-recorded tape to another tape. It is performed only one way from deck B (playback) to deck A (recording).

  • Slide the FUNCTION SWITCH to “TAPE” position.
  • Inset a pre-recorded cassette into deck B and a blank cassette tape into deck A.
  • Press the PAUSE button and then press down on the deck A RECORD and PLAY buttons at the same time until they lock down.
  • Press the PLAY button to start playback on deck B, the PAUSE button on deck A will automatically release to start recording.
  • Press the PAUSE button on deck A and the STOP button on deck B when finished.

B. RECORDING FROM THE RADIO

  • Slide the FUNCTION SWITCH to “RADIO” position.
  • Slide AM/FM switch to select band.
  • Tune to the desired station and insert a blank cassette tape in deck A.
  • Press down on the RECORD & PLAY buttons at the same time until they lock to start recording.
  • Press the PAUSE button and then STOP/EJECT button when finished.

C. RECORDING FROM A CD

  • Slide the FUNCTION SWITCH to “CD” position.
  • Insert a blank cassette tape in deck A which is suitable for recording.
  • Press the PAUSE button first and then press down on the RECORD & PLAY buttons until they lock. The recording function is now in STANDBY.
  • Press PLAY on the CD player, and then press the PAUSE button on deck A to start recording.
  • To stop recording, press the STOP button on CD player first, then press the PAUSE button and then the STOP/EJECT button on cassette deck A to stop recording.

D. RECORDING FROM AUX IN

  • Slide the FUNCTION SWITCH to “AUX” position.
  • Connect Line out or headphone out of your external audio device to AUX IN jack via a 3.5mm plug audio cable (not included).
  • Insert a blank cassette tape into the deck A.
  • Press the PAUSE button on deck A and then Press down on the RECORD & PLAY buttons at the same time until they lock.
  • Press the play button of your external audio device to start playback and then press the PAUSE button on deck A to start recording.
  • Press the PAUSE button and then STOP/EJECT button when finished

E. RECORDING FROM AN EXTERNAL MICROPHONE (NOT INCLUDED)

  • Slide the FUNCTION SWITCH to the “AUX” position.
  • Connect your external dynamic microphone to the 3.5mm MIC Jack.
  • Insert a blank cassette tape into deck A.
  • Press the PAUSE button first and then press down on the RECORD & PLAYbuttons until they lock. The recording function is now in STANDBY.
  • Press the “ PAUSE ” button on deck A to start recording using the external microphone.
  • Slowly adjust the MIC VOLUME to control microphone input sensitivity if necessary.
  • Press the PAUSE or the STOP/EJECT button on deck A when finished.

NOTES:

  1. When recording from Tape, Radio or CD, the volume control does not affect the recording level due to ALC circuit inside unit.
  2. When recording from AUX IN, you may need to adjust volume level of your external audio player for the best result.
  3. When recording from external microphone, to obtain the best result and reduce saturation risks, speak at a distance of approximate 2 – 3 inches from microphone. Adjust MICVOLUME to control microphone input level if necessary.
  4. When recording from AM radio, you may receive interference.

BASS BOOST (DBBS) FUNCTIONPress the “DBBS” button on main unit if you want to add more bass and enhance the music being played. Press the button again to turn off the extra bass.

AUXILARY INPUTThis unit features an AUX-IN jack for connecting your iPod, MP3 player or other digital music player.

  1. Connect the headphone jack of your external device to the 3.5 mm AUX IN jack located on the top panel of this unit (The connection cable is not included).
  2. Turn on the unit and slide the FUNCTION SWITCH to “AUX” position.
  3. Start to play your iPod, MP3 player or other external audio device.
  4. Slowly adjust both volume controls on your CD player and the external device.
  5. Turn off your external device when finish listening. Turn off the unit and unplug the cable from AUX IN jack.

Note:

  1. If the Line Out Jack of your external device is connected, then you only need to adjust the volume control of this system. If the Headphone Jack of your external device is connected, then you may need to adjust both the volume control of your external device and the volume control of this system to find the most desirable volume setting.
  2. Slide the FUNCTION SWITCH to “TAPE/OFF” position to turn off the system when you finish listening. Don’t forget to switch off the power on your external device as well.

USE HEADPHONES (NOT INCLUDED)

Inserting the plug of your headphones into the Stereo Headphone Jack will enable you to listen to the CD, Radio or Cassette music in private. When using headphones, the Built-in Speakers will be disconnected.Read this Important Information before Using Your Headphones

  1. Avoid extended play at very high volume as it may impair your hearing.
  2. If you experience ringing in your ears, reduce the volume or shut off the unit.
  3. Keep the volume at a reasonable level even if your headset is an open-air type designed to allow you to hear outside sounds. Please note that excessively high volume may still block outside sounds.

USING AN EXTERNAL MICROPHONE (NOT INCLUDED)

You can attach an external dynamic microphone (not included) with a 3.5 mm plug.

  1. Plug one end of a Microphone cable (not included) into the MIC Jack.
  2. Slide the FUNCTION switch to the AUX position.
  3. Start playback when you plugged into the MIC Jack.
  4. Slowly adjust the MIC VOLUME control of your microphone until you hear your voice from the speakers.
  5. Follow instructions under TAPE OPERATION to record sound using the external microphone.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

  1. Do not subject the unit to excessive force, shock, dust or extreme temperature.
  2. Do not tamper the internal components of the unit.
  3. Clean your unit with a dry cloth. Solvent or detergent should never be used.
  4. Avoid leaving your unit in direct sunlight or in hot, humid or dusty places.
  5. Keep your unit away from heating appliances and sources of electrical noise such as fluorescent lamps or motors.

ABOUT CASSETTE TAPESWhenever you record on a cassette any previously recorded material is erased as the new material is recorded. To prevent you from accidentally erasing material which you wish to save, blank cassettes are equipped with erase prevention tabs for each side of the tape. If the erase prevention tab for side A is removed, you  cannot accidentally record on side A. The Record button cannot be depressed if the erase prevention tab on the cassette has been removed.

To prevent accidental erasing on side A of a cassette use a small screw driver or similar tool to break off the erase prevention tab for side A. This prevents the record key form locking.

If later you do wish to record on side A of the cassette, cover the tab opening with a piece of cellophane tape. This will allow the Record to function again.

CASSETTE CARETwo common causes of trouble experienced when using cassettes are:

1) Tape Jamming – Leading to uneven speed in playback, and2) Tape Tangling – Where the tape wraps itself around ital parts of the mechanism.

To reduce the likelihood of these problems occurring, the following precautions should be observed:

  • Check that there are no loose layers of tape visible through the cassette center window (see Fig. 1). Take up any loose layers, using a pencil or hexagonal  barrelled ballpoint pen, before inserting the cassette into the machine (see Fig.2)
  • If the cassette feels tight while performing operation shown (see Fig.2), the tape may be jamming due to ridges formed in the winding of the tape (visible  through the center window). These may be removed, in most cases, by fast winding of the cassette from one end to the other and back again.
  • Use only well-known brands of tape. Avoid use of C-120 cassettes.

Furthermore, do not expose cassettes to direct sunlight, dust or oil, and do not touch the tape surfaces.HEAD CLEANINGThe tape heads, pinch roller and capstan require periodic cleaning. This removes particles of the metal oxide coating that wear off the tape and accumulate on these parts and impair performance. Switch off the power, press the Stop/Eject key to open the cassette door, and press the Play key. Clean the tape heads, pinch  roller and capstan with a soft cloth or cotton pad dampened in isopropyl alcohol or special tape head cleaner.

  1. Avoid operating your unit under direct sunlight or in hot, humid or dusty places.
  2. Keep your unit away from heating appliances and sources of electrical noise such as fluorescent lamps or motors.
  3. For better Clock Display clarity, avoid operating the unit under direct sunlight or in strong room illumination.
  4. Unplug the unit from the electrical power outlet immediately in case of mal.

COMPACT DISC CARE

  • Handle the disc only by its edges. Never allow your fingers to come in contact with the shiny, unprinted side of the disc.
  • 3Do not attach adhesive tape, stickers etc., to the disc label.
  • Clean the disc periodically with soft, lint-free, dry cloth. Never use detergents or adhesive cleaners to clean the disc. If necessary, use a CD cleaning kit.
  • If disc skips or gets stuck on a section of the disc, it is probably dirty or damaged (scratched).
  • When cleaning the disc, wipe in straight lines from the center of the disc to the edge of the disc. Never wipe in circular motions.
  • To remove a disc from its storage case, press down on the center of the case and lift the disc outs, holding it carefully by the edges.
  • Fingerprints and dust should be carefully wiped off the disc’s recorded surface with a soft cloth. Unlike conventional records. compact discs have no grooves to collect dust and microscopic debris so gently wiping with a soft cloth should remove most particles.

CLEANING THE UNIT

  • To prevent fire or shock hazard, disconnect your unit from the AC power source when cleaning.
  • The finish on the unit may be cleaned with a dust cloth and cared for as other furniture, Use caution when cleaning and wiping the plastic parts.
  • If the cabinet becomes dusty wipe it with a soft dry dust cloth. Do not use any wax or polish sprays on the cabinet.
  • If the front panel becomes dirty or smudged with fingerprints it may be cleaned with a soft cloth slightly dampened with a mild soap and water solution. Never use abrasive cloths or polishes as these will damage the finish of your unit.

CAUTION: Never allow any water or other liquids to get inside the unit while cleaning.

TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE

This warranty is not assignable or transferable. Our obligation under this warranty is the repair or replacement of the defective unit or any part thereof, except batteries, when it is returned to the SPECTRA Service Department, accompanied by proof of the date of original consumer purchase, such as a duplicate copy of a sales receipt.

You must pay all shipping charges required to ship the product to SPECTRA for warranty service. If the product is repaired or replaced under warranty, the return charges will be at SPECTRA’s expense. There are no other express warranties other than those stated herein.
