Introduction

Welcome to Kramer Electronics! Since 1981, Kramer Electronics has been providing a world of unique, creative, and affordable solutions to the vast range of problems that confront video, audio, presentation, and broadcasting professionals on a daily basis. In recent years, we have redesigned and upgraded most of our line, making the best even better!

Getting Started

We recommend that you:

  • Unpack the equipment carefully and save the original box and packaging materials for possible future shipment.
  • Review the contents of this user manual.

Go to www.kramerav.com/downloads/VS-211H2 to check for up-to-date user manuals, application programs, and to check if firmware upgrades are available (where appropriate).

Achieving Best Performance

  • Use only good-quality connection cables (we recommend Kramer high-performance, high-resolution cables) to avoid interference, deterioration in signal quality due to poor matching, and elevated noise levels (often associated with low-quality cables).
  • Do not secure the cables in tight bundles or roll the slack into tight coils.
  • Avoid interference from neighboring electrical appliances that may adversely influence signal quality.
  • Position your Kramer VS-211H2 away from moisture, excessive sunlight, and dust.

This equipment is to be used only inside a building. It may only be connected to other equipment that is installed inside a building.

Safety Instructions

Caution: There are no operator serviceable parts inside the unit.
Warning: Use only the Kramer Electronics power supply that is provided with the unit.
Warning: Disconnect the power and unplug the unit from the wall before installing.

Recycling Kramer Products

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive 2002/96/EC aims to reduce the amount of WEEE sent for disposal to landfills or incineration by requiring it to be collected and recycled. To comply with the WEEE Directive, Kramer Electronics has made arrangements with the European Advanced Recycling Network (EARN) and will cover any costs of treatment, recycling, and recovery of waste Kramer Electronics branded equipment on arrival at the EARN facility. For details of Kramer’s recycling arrangements in your particular country go to our recycling pages at www.kramerav.com/support/recycling.

8 LAST CONN/PRIORITY DIP- Switch 1 Set DIP 1 up (OFF) to select the Last Connected input.

Set DIP 1 down (ON) to select the Priority input determined by DIP-switch 2.

9 DEF 1/DEF 2 DIP-switch 2 Set DIP 2 up (OFF) to make input 1 the default input. Set DIP 2 down (ON) to make input 2 the default input.
10 REMOTE Terminal Block Connects to optional contact closure switches 1 & 2 for manual switching.
11 5V DC Connector Connects to the 5V DC power supply to power the unit.

Connecting VS-211H2

Always switch off the power to each device before connecting it to your VS-211H2. After connecting your VS-211H2, connect its power and then switch on the power to each device.

To connect VS-211H2, as illustrated in the example in Figure 2, do the following:

  1. Connect the INPUT 1 connector to HDMI source 1 (for example, a Blu-ray player).
  2. Connect the INPUT 2 connector to HDMI source 2 (for example, a laptop computer graphics source UHD).
  3. Connect the OUTPUT connector to an HDMI acceptor (for example, a UHD projector).
  4. If manual switching is needed, connect contact closure (pushbutton) switches to theREMOTE terminal block sees Connecting REMOTE Terminal Block Connector on page 6.

Figure 2: Connecting the VS‑211H2 Automatic HDMI Standby Switcher

Connecting REMOTE Terminal Block Connector

Regardless of the default input switch setting, you can force the switching of the active input by remote control. To do this, connect the appropriate  REMOTE input terminal block connector pins to momentary contact closure switches (pushbuttons) (see Figure 3).

  • To force input source 1: momentarily connect REMOTE IN1 to PING (ground).
  • To force input source 2: momentarily connect REMOTE IN2 to PING (ground).

Do not connect both the REMOTE IN1 and the REMOTE IN2 to PING simultaneously.

Figure 3: REMOTE Terminal Block Connector

The contact closure setting remains in effect until the selected source device is disconnected or VS-211H2 is powered off. All automatic switching is overridden.

Setting VS-211H2 DIP-Switches and Operation

When active input sources are connected to IN 1 and IN 2, VS-211H2 switches in accordance with the DIP-switch settings on the rear of the unit

.

Figure 4: DIP Switches

The settings and switching behavior can be set in any of the following ways:

Priority Setting: DIP 1 is Set to ON (Down)

In this switching mode, if a source is present on the “priority input”, then this source is switched to the output.DIP 2 defines the priority input:• When set to OFF (up), INPUT 1 is the priority input.• When set to ON (down), INPUT 2 is the priority input.

Reactivating or reconnecting the non-priority input has no effect on switching.

Last Connected Setting: DIP 1 is Set to OFF (Up)In this switching mode, whenever a source is connected to an input that, until then, did not have a valid source connected to it, that input is switched to the output. (The reactivating or reconnecting of any source makes it the new “Last Connected” source).

DIP 2 has no effect in this switching mode.

Manual Override: Using REMOTE switchesControlling via the remote contact closure pushbuttons (see Figure 3) overrides all DIP-switch settings and automatic switching until the manually selected source disconnects, becomes inactive or VS-211H2 is powered off.
