Thank you for choosing the Lakeland Potato Rumbler.Please take a little time to read this booklet before getting started and keep it in a safe place for future reference.The Potato Rumbler makes light work of peeling potatoes, at the flick of a switch in minutes. SAFETY CAUTIONS

Carefully read all the instructions before using the appliance and keep in a safe place for future reference. Always follow these safety cautions when using the appliance to avoid personal injury or damage to the appliance. This appliance should be used only as described in this instruction book.

  • This appliance can be used by children aged from 8 years and above and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved. Children shall not play with the appliance. Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be done by children unless they are older than 8 and supervised.
  • Make sure your electricity supply matches the voltage shown on the appliance.
  • Ensure all packaging materials and any promotional labels or stickers are removed from the appliance before the first use.
  • Always inspect the appliance before use for noticeable signs of damage. Do not use if damaged or has been dropped. In the event of damage, or if the appliance develops a fault contact the Lakeland customer care team on 015394 88100.

  • Always use the appliance on a dry, level, heat resistant surface.
  • Unplug from the mains when not in use and before cleaning. To disconnect, turn the socket to “off“ and remove the plug from the mains socket.
  • Do not use any accessories or attachments with this appliance other than those recommended by Lakeland.
  • To protect against fire, electric shock or personal injury, do not immerse cord, plug or base in water or other liquids.
  • Do not leave the lead hanging over the edge of a kitchen table or worktop. Avoid contact between the lead and hot surfaces.

  • This appliance should be used for preparation of food as described within the instructions for use that accompany it.
  • Always ensure that your hands are dry before removing the plug from the mains socket. Never pull the plug out of the mains socket by its lead.
  • To avoid injury or possible fire, do not cover the appliance when in use.
  • Do not connect this appliance to an external timer or remote control system.
  • An extension cable may be used with care. The electrical rating of the cable should be at least as great as the appliance. Do not allow the cable to hang over the edge of the worktop or touch any hot surfaces.
  • This appliance complies with the basic requirements of Directives 2014/30/EU (Electromagnetic Compatibility) and 2014/35/EU (Low Voltage Directive).
  • WARNING: A cut off plug inserted into a 13 amp socket is a serious safety (shock) hazard. Ensure the cut off plug is disposed of safely.
  • CAUTION: The plastic bags used to wrap this appliance or the packaging may be dangerous. To avoid risk of suffocation, keep these bags out of reach of babies and children. These bags are not toys.
  • CAUTION: The blade is very sharp. Care must be taken when handling the blade, emptying the bowl and during cleaning. Hold by the plastic spindle, well away from the cutting edges.
  • DO NOT operate the Potato Rumbler empty.
  • When you have stopped rumbling, wait for the blade to come to a complete stop before taking off and removing the lid.
  • DO NOT put more than 1kg of potatoes into the Potato Rumbler and do not let the appliance work continuously for more than 4 minutes.
  • Make sure all the parts are in the correct position, otherwise the appliance will not work.
  • NEVER open the appliance when it is in operation.

USING YOUR POTATO RUMBLER AND USING FOR THE FIRST TIME

  • Unpack the Potato Rumbler, remove all the packaging materials.
  • Before first use, wipe the base with a clean damp cloth.
  • Wash the lid, bowl and blades in warm soapy water, rinse and dry thoroughly. The blade is sharp, when washing by hand, hold by the plastic spindle and clean with a brush.
  • Make sure that all parts are clean and dry before assembling the product.

WARNING: Do not insert the plug into a socket or turn on the Potato Rumbler before you have fully assembled it.

  1. Place the base unit on a level, sturdy and dry surface near a socket, with the power button facing you. The appliance should be stable on its suction feet.
  2. Wind any excess cord around the cord storage area underneath the power base. Guide the cord length you require through the gap in the base.
  3. Place the bowl on top of the base unit lining up with the groove at the back. Gently push down, until it clicks into place. If the bowl is not correctly seated on the base unit the appliance will not work, this is a safety feature.
  4. Hold the blade by the spindle and slot it onto the pin inside the bowl.
  5. Put the lid on top of the bowl, lining up the tab on the lid, with the groove at the back of the bowl. If not correctly positioned the appliance will not work, this is a safety feature. Secure the lid with the two black catches.
  6. The Potato Rumbler is now ready to use.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

  • Firstly, check that the power button is switched off before you plug in the appliance.
  • Remove the lid.
  • Fill the bowl with cold water no higher than the FILL mark. We recommend adding a half cup of cold water.DO NOT fill beyond the FILL mark otherwise the appliance will not work correctly and water may escape.
  • Remove any excess soil from your potatoes.
  • Add enough potatoes to the bowl to cover the blade, NEVER more than 1kg at a time.
  • Put the lid on top of the bowl, with the tab on the lid at the back lining up, with the groove in the bowl. Close the two black catches.
  • Plug in and switch on at the socket.
  • The appliance has suction feet to keep it steady on your worktop during rumbling. Please note that it will vibrate but the suction feet will keep it in place during use.
  • Switch on the power button and the Potato Rumbler will start rumbling.
  • You can check the progress through the lid. The appliance will take about 1 minute to peel potatoes. Potatoes irregular in shape may take up more space and need a bit longer to peel, but do not allow the potato peeler to run for more than 4 minutes.

NEVER open the appliance when it is in operation.

  • Once you are happy with your peeled potatoes, switch off the power button and switch off and unplug the appliance at the socket.

WARNING: Always wait for the blade to stop rotating completely before removing the lid.

  • Remove the bowl by lifting from the front and gently move it backwards away from you and it will release off the safety catch.
  • Rinse the potatoes, then carefully remove from the bowl and remove any excess peeling or eyelets on the potatoes with a small knife.
  • Carefully take the blade out of the bowl holding the spindle.
  • DO NOT put more than 1kg of potatoes into the peeler.
  • DO NOT let the appliance work continuously for more than 4 minutes. Allow the motor to cool for 5 minutes before rumbling again.

HINTS AND TIPS

  • Always insert the blade before adding potatoes to the bowl.
  • Wash the potatoes first to remove any excess soil and debris before rumbling.
  • The appliance has suction feet to help keep it steady on your worktop. For safety, keep a hand on the bowl whenever the appliance is running.
  • Check the progress regularly, do not over rumble or your potatoes will become smaller and you will have lots of potato pulp.
  • New potatoes take little time to peel, as they do not have hard skins.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Question: The Potato Rumbler is fully assembled, why is nothing happening when I press the power on/off button.

Answer: The appliance is not correctly assembled and has two safety features which stops it from switching on. Switch off and unplug at the socket, and check the parts are correctly aligned. The bowl tab must be located in the base unit and the lid tab must be located at the top of the bowl.

Question: Why are my potatoes not peeling properly?

Answer: You may not have enough water in the bowl. DO NOT fill beyond the FILL mark.Check that you have not got more than 1kg of potatoes in the bowl.

CARE AND CLEANING

  • Unplug the Potato Rumbler before cleaning.
  • Clean thoroughly before using for the first time and after every use.
  • Check the parts for wear or damage after every few uses.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners, or steel wool.
  • Always use plastic, wooden or silicone spatulas
  • Never immerse the base in water or any other liquid.
  • To clean the base unit, wipe with a clean damp cloth and dry thoroughly before storing.
  • Wash the lid, blade and bowl in hot soapy water, rinse and dry thoroughly before storing.
  • CAUTION: The blades are very sharp, take care when cleaning. When washing the blade by hand, hold by the plastic spindle and clean with a brush.
  • Store the Potato Rumbler with the power cable loosely coiled. Never wrap it tightly around the product.

ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS

THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE EARTHEDThe appliance is fitted with a fused three-pin plug to BS1363 which is suitable for use in all homes fitted with sockets to current specifications.

CHANGING THE 3 AMP FUSEUse a 3 amp BS1362 fuse. Only BSI or ASTA approved fuses should be used. If you are unsure which plug or fuse to use, always refer to a qualified electrician.Note: After replacing or changing a fuse on a moulded plug which has a fuse cover, the cover must be refitted to the plug; the appliance must not be used without a fuse cover.
