GAUGE11 sts = about 4 in. (10 cm) in St st worked in the rnd (knit every rnd).BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

STITCH EXPLANATIONYo (yarn over)An increase that also creates a small decorative hole (eyelet) in the fabric, worked as follows:

  1. Bring yarn to front, between the needles.
  2. Take yarn to back, over the right hand needle. This creates the new st. You are now ready to proceed with the next st as instructed.

NOTES

  1. Cowl is worked in one piece in the round in sections of St st worked in the rnd (knit every rnd) and an easy eyelet pattern.
  2. The neck edge of the Cowl is shaped with decreases.

COWLWith longer circular needle, cast on 104 sts. Place marker for beg of rnd. Join by working the first st on the left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle and being careful not to twist sts.

SECTION IWork in St st in the rnd (knit every rnd), slipping marker as you come to it on each rnd, until Section I measures about 2 in. (5 cm) from beginning.

SECTION IIRnd 1: Purl.

Rnds 2 and 3: Knit.Rnd 4: *K2, yo, k2tog; rep from * around.Rnds 5 and 6: Knit.Rnd 7: Purl.

SECTION IIIWork in St st in the rnd until Section III measures about 2 in. (5 cm) from beginning of section.

SECTION IVRep Section II.

SECTION VWork in St st until Section V measures about 2 in. (5 cm) from beginning of section.

LAST SECTIONNoteChange to shorter circular needle as you work the next rnd.Decrease Rnd 1: *K6, k2tog; rep from * around – you’ll have 88 sts.Knit one rnd.Decrease Rnd 2: *K6, k2tog; rep from * around – you’ll have 77 sts.Work in St st in the rnd until you have just about 2 yds (2 m) of yarn remaining.Bind off all sts loosely.
