GAUGE

STITCH EXPLANATIONM1 (make 1) An increase worked by lifting the horizontal strand lying between needles and placing it onto the left needle. Knit this new stitch through the back loop – 1 st increased.

PATTERN STITCHESK2, p2 Rib worked in rnds (worked over a multiple of 4 sts)Rnd 1: *K2, p2; rep from * to end of rnd.Rnd 2: K the knit sts and p the purl sts.Rep Rnd 2 for K2, p2 Rib.

Speckles Pattern (worked over a multiple of 6 sts)Rnds 1-3: Knit.Rnd 4: *K1, p1, k4; rep from * around.Rnds 5-7: Knit.Rnd 8: *K4, p1, k1; rep from * around.Rep Rnds 1-8 for Speckles pattern.

NOTES:
  1. Sweater is worked in 3 pieces: Body and 2 Sleeves.
  2. Sleeves are worked in the round and then set aside.
  3. Body is worked in the round. Sleeves are joined to Body at underarms. Yoke is then worked up to neck.
  4. Yarn color is changed in Yoke to form stripes, following Yoke Stripe Sequence.
  5. When you see ‘work in pattern as established’ in the instructions, this means to work the next rnd of the pattern st, lining up sts as in previous rnds.
  6. When you see ‘work even’ in the instructions, this means to continue on in the pattern st you have established without changing the st count by increasing, decreasing, or binding off.
  7. Our model choose to wear the sweater inside out!

Note: The following corrections have been incorporated into the pattern below. We are highlighting the corrections separately here so that if you have printed out an earlier version of the pattern you’ll know what was changed.

SLEEVES (make 2)

With double pointed needles and A, cast on 52 sts. Divide sts onto 4 needles, placing 13 sts on each needle. Place marker for beg of rnd. Join by working the first st on left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle and being careful not to twist sts. Work in K2, p2 Rib until piece measures about 2 1/2 in. (6.5 cm) from beg.Next Rnd (Increase Rnd): K1, M1, knit to last st (for Rnd 1 of Speckles pattern), M1, k1 – you will have 54 sts in this rnd. Continue in Speckles pattern as established for 15 (13, 10, 7) rnds.Increase Rnd: K1, M1, work in Speckles pattern as established to last st, M1, k1 – 56 sts. Rep last 16 (14, 12, 8, 6, 4) rnds for 4 (5, 7, 10) more times – 64 (66, 70, 76) sts. Work even in Speckles pattern as established until piece measures about 18 in. (45.5 cm) from beg.Next Rnd: Work in Speckles pattern as established to last 4 (4, 5, 5) sts, bind off last 4 (4, 4, 5, 5) sts, remove beg of rnd marker, bind off next 4 sts – 56 (58, 60, 66) sts rem on needle.Cut yarn and place sts on a holder.Rep to make second Sleeve, taking care to end second Sleeve on same pattern rnd as last rnd of first Sleeve.

BODY

With longer needle and A, cast on 192 (216, 240, 252) sts. Place marker for beg of rnd. Join by working the first st on left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle and being careful not to twist sts. Work in K2, p2 Rib until piece measures about 2 1/2 in. (6.5 cm) from beg. Work in Speckles pattern until piece measures about 12 in. (30.5 cm) from beg, end with same pattern rnd as 2nd to last rnd of Sleeves.Next Rnd: Work in Speckles pattern as established over first 88 (100, 110, 116) sts for back, bind off next 8 (8, 10, 10) sts as if to knit, work in pattern as established to last 8 (8, 10, 10) sts for front, bind off last 8 (8, 10, 10) sts, remove beg of rnd marker.

Join Sleeves to BodyRnd 1: Work in Speckles pattern as established over first 88 (100, 110, 116) sts of Body for back, place marker (pm), continue in pattern over 56 (58, 60, 66) sts of one Sleeve, pm, continue in pattern over next 88 (100, 110, 116) sts of Body for front, pm, continue in pattern over 56 (58, 60, 66) sts of second Sleeve, pm (using contrast color) for beg of rnd – 288 (316, 340, 364) sts. Join by working the first st on left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle and being careful not to twist sts.

YOKEWork even in Speckles pattern as established for 3 rnds. Decrease Rnd: *K2tog, work in Speckles pattern as established to 2 sts before next marker, ssk, slip marker (sm); rep from * 3 more times – 280 (308, 332, 356) sts.Work even in Speckles pattern as established for 6 rnds. Rep Decrease Rnd– 272 (300, 324, 348) sts. Work even in Speckles pattern as established for 3 rnds. Cut A. Next Rnd: With D, knit and decrease 12 (0, 9, 3) sts evenly spaced around, removing all markers except beg of rnd marker – 260 (300, 315, 345) sts.

Shape YokeYoke Stripe Sequence: D, * B, C, D; rep from * for Yoke Stripe Sequence.Note: Markers are now placed to indicate decrease locations.Rnd 1: With D, * k1, p2tog, p17 (17, 18, 20), pm; rep from * around – 247 (285, 300, 330) sts.Next 3 Rnds: With D, * k1, p to next marker, sm; rep from * around. Change to next yarn color in Yoke Stripe Sequence.Next Rnd: Knit, slipping markers as you come to them.Next Rnd: * K1, p to 2 sts before next marker, p2tog, sm; rep from * around – 234 (270, 285, 315) sts.Next 3 Rnds: * K1, p to next marker, sm; rep from * around. Change to next yarn color in Yoke Stripe Sequence.Next Rnd: Knit, slipping markers as you come to them.Next Rnd: * K1, p2tog, p to next marker, sm; rep from * around – 221 (255, 270, 300) sts.Next 3 Rnds: * K1, p to next marker, sm; rep from * around. Rep last 10 rnds until only 104 (105, 105, 105) sts rem on needle, end with the last rnd of a stripe as the last rnd you work. Cut B, C, and D.

Shape NeckPlace first 64 (63 63. 63) sts onto right needle (do not remove markers), place next 17 (15, 15, 15) sts on a holder for center front neck (removing markers) – 87 (90, 90, 90) sts rem on needle. Neck shaping is now worked back and forth in rows. Rejoin B at beg of RS. Continue to change yarn color following Yoke Stripe Sequence. When binding off, if fewer than 5 sts rem between a marker and the beg or end of a row remove the marker.

Row 1 (RS): Bind off 4 sts as if to knit, knit to end of row – 83 (86, 86, 86) sts.Row 2: Bind off 4 sts as if to purl; *work in pattern as established to next marker, sm, k2tog; rep from * across then work in pattern as established to end of row – 70 (71, 71, 71) sts.Row 3: Bind off 3 sts as if to knit; work in pattern as established to end of row – 67 (68, 68, 68) sts.Row 4: Bind off 3 sts as if to purl; work in pattern as established to end of row 64 (65, 65, 65) sts.Row 5: Bind off 2 sts as if to knit; work in pattern as established to end of row – 62 (63, 63. 63) sts.Row 6: Bind off 2 sts as if to purl; work in pattern as established to end of row – 60 (61, 61, 61) sts.Row 7: Bind off 1 st as if to knit, *work in pattern as established to 2 sts before next marker, p2tog, sm; rep from * across then work in pattern as established to end of row.Row 8: Bind off 1 st as if to purl; work in pattern as established to end of row.Row 9: Bind off 1 st as if to knit; work in pattern as established to end of row. FINISHING

NeckbandWith shorter circular needle and A, pick up and k88 sts (including 17 (15, 15, 15) sts from center front neck holder) evenly spaced around neck edge. Join to work in the rnd. Knit 7 rnds. Bind off as if to knit. Sew underarm seams. Weave in ends. Block to measurements.
