MATERIALS

  • LION BRAND® SCARFIE (Art. #826) #237 Seafoam/Clay 2 balls
  • LION BRAND® crochet hook size K-10.5 (6.5 mm)
  • LION BRAND® large-eyed blunt needle

GAUGE13 sts = about 4 in. (10 cm) in pattern of Rows 5-10.BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

STITCH EXPLANATIONS

hdc-3rd (half double crochet in 3rd loop) Yarn over, insert hook in 3rd loop of indicated st and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.

Note: When working back and forth in rows, the 3rd loop is on the side of the piece that is facing you, immediately below the front loop.

V-st (V-stitch) Work (dc, ch 1, dc) in indicated st.

NOTES

  1. Scarf is worked in one piece, back and forth in rows.
  2. Ends of Scarf are folded then seamed to make pockets.

SCARFCh 35.

Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook (3 skipped ch count as dc) and in each ch across ­ you will have 33 dc in this row.

Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as hdc), turn, sk first st, hdc in each st across working last hdc in top of beg ch-3.

Row 3: Ch 2 (counts as hdc), turn, sk first st, hdc-3rd in each st to beg ch-2, hdc in top of beg ch-2.

Row 4: Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, sk first st, dc in each st across working last dc in top of beg ch-2.

Row 5: Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, sk first 2 sts, V-st in next st, *sk next st, dc in next st, sk next st, V-st in next st; rep from * to last 2 sts, sk next st, dc in top of beg ch-3 ­ 8 V-sts, 7 dc between V-sts and 1 dc at beg and end of row.

Row 6: Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, dc in first st, dc in ch-1 sp of next V-st, *V-st in next dc between V-sts, dc in ch-1 sp of next V-st; rep from * across, 2 dc in top of beg ch-3 ­ 7 V-sts.

Row 7: Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, sk first st, dc in each dc and ch-1 sp across working last dc in top of beg ch-3 ­ 33 dc.

Rows 8-10: Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, sk first st, dc in each st across working last dc in top of beg ch-3. Rep Rows 5-10 until piece measures about 82 in. (208.5 cm) from beg, end with a Row 10 as the last row you work.

Next 3 Rows: Rep Rows 5-7.

Next Row: Rep Row 2.

Next Row: Ch 2 (counts as hdc), turn, sk first st, hdc-3rd in each st to beg ch-2, hdc in top of beg ch-2.

Next Row: Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, sk first st, dc in each st across working last dc in top of beg ch-2. Fasten off, leaving a long yarn tail for sewing.

FINISHINGFold each end of Scarf back about 8 1/2 (21.5 cm).

Take care that the ridges of Row 3 and in 2nd to last row are near top of pockets. Sew side edges together to make pockets. Weave in yarn ends.

FringeCut 2 strands of yarn each about 15 in. (38 cm) long. Hold strands together and fold in half. Use crochet hook to draw fold through lower edge of one pocket, forming a loop. Pull ends of fringe through this loop. Pull to tighten. Make fringe evenly spaced along lower edge of each pocket. Trim ends of fringe evenly.
