mrSafe Smoke Detector

The mrSafe SD-100 smoke alarm sends out audio and visual alarm signals when detecting smoke. The smoke alarm has a built-in buzzer. When smoke concentration reaches a preset value, the alarm sends out high decibel audio and optical alarm signals, to warn you to take effective measures immediately: evacuate your home and call your local fire department.

INSTALLATION

  Installation must conform to the following principles:

  • When installed on a flat ceiling, the alarm must be placed at least 300 mm away from any wall. See illustration 1
  • It is advisable to install multiple alarms when the distance is over 10 m.
  • When installed on sloping roofs, the smoke alarm must be placed approx. 0.5m away from the roof top if the gradient is less than 30°, or placed approx. 0.5m~1m away from the roof top if the gradient is larger than 30°. See illustration 2
  • Before mounting the alarm you have to activate the SD-100 Smoke Detector first, or else it will not function properly. Press the TEST button for 10 seconds until the LED indicator lights up.
  • Do NOT install your SD-100 Smoke Detector in:» High-humidity areas such as kitchens, and bathrooms;» Next to air outlets, fans and central heating;» Dusty, dirty areas, or areas with insects;» High-temperature and easily polluted places;» Places with difficult access, making it difficult to operate the test function;

OPTION 1: WALL OR CEILING MOUNTING See illustration 3

  1. Twist and remove the mounting plate.
  2. Choose a suitable mounting location (wall or ceiling). Using the mounting plate provided, mark both hole locations. Drill the holes.
  3. Insert the provided screws through the mounting plate, aligning the ribs on the screw with the slots on the mounting plate.
  4. Securely tighten the mounting plate to the wall or ceiling. Do not overtighten.
  5. Activate the alarm by pressing the TEST button for 10 seconds. Release the TEST button when the LED indicator lights up. Your smoke alarm is now active.
  6. Fix the smoke alarm into the mounting plate.
  7. After installation, press the TEST button to test again. See “OPERATION AND TESTING” for more details.

OPTION 2: USING THE DOUBLE-SIDED STICKER

  1. Choose a suitable mounting location (wall or ceiling). Make sure to install on a flat surface only.
  2. Thoroughly clean the mounting location using a dry rag.
  3. Remove the adhesive foil on one side of the double-sided sticker and stick on the mounting plate.
  4. Twist the smoke alarm into the mounting plate.
  5. Remove the adhesive foil on the other side of the sticker, with the alarm already fixed on the mounting plate. Stick the smoke alarm on the chosen location. Press the alarm tightly against the surface for several minutes.
  6. Activate the smoke alarm and test, as described in Option 1. Alternatively, you may choose to use the magnetic mounts instead. These can be installed in a similar way.

 

OPERATION AND TESTING

  • Activation: Activate the unit by pressing the TEST button for 10 seconds until the LED indicator lights up. The unit will beep.
  • Testing: Test the unit to ensure proper functioning. When pressing the TEST button, the unit will emit 2 x 3 loud beeps to indicate that your SD-100 Smoke Detector works normally. If no sound is heard, this may indicate that your smoke alarm may not work properly. Please refer to “TROUBLESHOOTING” for solutions.
  • Operation: The alarm is operating once it is activated and testing is complete. When products of combustion are sensed, the unit sounds a loud 85db pulsating alarm until the air is cleared.
  • Alarm Pause (Hush mode): Temporarily pause your smoke alarm by pressing the TEST button when non-emergency smoke causes nuisance alarms. The LED indicator will flash

every 5 seconds to remind you that the smoke alarm has been silenced. The smoke alarm will automatically resume normal functionality after 10 minutes.

  • Deactivation: When functioning normally, press and hold the TEST button for 10 seconds, until the LED indicator flashes. The unit will beep twice. Your smoke alarm has now been turned off, and will not go off in case of fire.

  Warning:

  • Do NOT test your alarm using an open flame. This may damage the smoke alarm, or ignite combustible materials and start a structural fire.
  • It is recommended to use a standard test spray to test!
  • It is recommended to test your smoke alarm at least weekly!

MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING

This unit was designed to be as maintenance-free as possible. There are a few simple steps you need do to keep it working properly.

  • Test the device at least once a week.
  • To ensure active sensitivity to smoke, clean the smoke detector surface with a soft brush or cloth each month.
  • If you are not going to use your smoke detector for a prolonged time, please dismount it, deactivate it and put it in a closed box.

  Warning:

  • DO NOT PAINT YOUR SMOKE ALARM.
  • The battery is sealed in the cover and not replaceable, DO NOT TRY TO REPLACE THE BATTERY.

TROUBLESHOOTING

  • Photoelectric smoke alarms can reduce the likelihood of disaster, but they cannot guarantee 100% safety. mrSafe can NOT be held liable for loss and/or damages of any kind, including incidental and/or consequential damages arising out of the fact that the signal from the smoke alarm device is not triggered by smoke or fire.
  • To ensure maximum security, please use the smoke alarms correctly. Install all smoke alarms exactly according to this manual.
  • Keep the smoke alarms clean, do not allow dust to accumulate and test them at least once per week.
  • Replace the smoke alarms immediately if they are not working properly.
  • Always be aware of potential hazards, develop safety consciousness and take preventive measures to avoid danger whenever and wherever necessary.
