Ooma Wireless + Bluetooth Adapter User Manual

Quick Start Guide

Before you begin

The Ooma Wireless + Bluetooth Adapter enables your Ooma Telo® or Ooma Office Base Station to connect to the Internet wirelessly using your Wi-Fi network. This gives you the flexibility to install your device anywhere in your home or office where you have access to Wi-Fi.

When used with the Ooma Telo, the built-in Bluetooth function also links your mobile phone to your Telo to receive incoming calls through your home telephones, giving you an additional level of convenience.

NOTE: Bluetooth functionality is not supported on Ooma Office Base Station devices.

Before you get started, make sure your Ooma device is working with a hardwired Ethernet connection. Then find a convenient place to put your Ooma device. It should be centrally located in your home or office and have good Wi-Fi signal strength. Also, to use the Bluetooth function, you’ll want to place the Telo within Bluetooth range of where you normally charge your cell phone.

Setting up the Wireless + Bluetooth Adapter will take about 10 minutes. You’ll need:

  • A desktop or laptop computer with an Ethernet port
  • An Ethernet cable

You will first set your device to connect to your Wi-Fi network. Then, you will set up Bluetooth and pair your Bluetooth devices.

Step 1 Install the Adapter

Make sure the adapter is properly aligned with the USB port on the back of your Ooma device and plug it in. Press firmly to ensure that the adapter is inserted all the way in, but do not use excessive force. Rotate it upward for optimal reception.

Step 2 Connect a computer to your Ooma device

Use your Ethernet cable to connect a computer to the HOME NETWORK port  of your Ooma device.

Step 3 Configure wireless settings

On the computer you connected to your Ooma device, open up a web browser and navigate to http://setup.ooma.com. Click on the Wireless tab on the left and follow the directions on the screen to link your Ooma device to your home Wi-Fi network.

NOTE: You’ll need the name of your home Wi-Fi network and the associated password.

Congratulations, you’ve gone wireless!

You may now disconnect the hardwired Ethernet cable connecting your Ooma device to your modem or router. You’re free to move your Ooma device to a more central location in your home or office!

Next time you power up, your Ooma device will connect to the Internet wirelessly through your Wi-Fi network. As before, your Ooma device will be ready for use when the Ooma logo turns blue. Pick up the phone connected to your Ooma device and listen for the musical Ooma dialtone to confirm that you are ready to make and receive calls.

If your Ooma device is not able to connect wirelessly, see the Troubleshooting section on the back for corrective actions you can try. Keep in mind that plugging an Ethernet cable into the TO INTERNET port will override use of the Wireless Adapter.

IMPORTANT: If your Ooma device used to be set up in between your modem and router prior to installing the Wireless + Bluetooth Adapter, be sure to reconnect your router to your modem directly and then power cycle both devices.

Configure Your Bluetooth settingsThe embedded Bluetooth function allows you to link your cell phone to your home telephone system through the Ooma Telo. Now incoming calls on your cell phone will ring on your cell phone AND home phone and you can use any of your home phones to answer the call. Prevent missed calls, avoid dropped calls, and enjoy the ergonomics of talking on your home telepheone. You can pair up to seven Bluetooth devices to your Telo.

Pairing a Mobile Phone

Step 1 Put the Telo into pairing mode Put your Ooma Telo into pairing mode by dialing  * # * # 5 0 1 from any phone connected  to your Ooma Telo. You will hear three beeps when the Telo goes into pairing mode.

Step 2 Add the Telo as a Bluetooth device Next, open the Bluetooth settings menu on your cell phone and go through the process of adding a “Headset” or “Hands free” type of device. Your mobile phone should find your Ooma Telo. Select it and complete the pairing process by entering a PIN of 0000.

Pairing a Bluetooth headsetStep 1 Access the Bluetooth setup page Use the computer that you connected to the HOME NETWORK port during the Wireless setup process and navigate a web browser to http://setup.ooma.com. Click on the Bluetooth tab on the left.

Step 2 Put your headset in pairing mode Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to put your Bluetooth headset into pairing mode.

Step 3 Add the device Click on the “Add New Device” button in your browser. The Telo will scan for nearby Bluetooth devices and display a list of devices to choose from. Select your headset from this list.

Step 4 Complete the pairing process When you are prompted, enter the Bluetooth headset PIN code. For most headsets, this code will be 0000. Click “Yes” to  dd the headset and complete the pairing process.

NOTE: You can also use this page to pair  a mobile phone.

Troubleshooting

If you run into any issues when setting up Wi-Fi access, try these corrective steps:

  • Press firmly to make sure the Wireless + Bluetooth Adapter is plugged in all the way
  • Try re-inserting the Wireless + Bluetooth  Adapter and rebooting your Ooma device
  • Move the Ooma device closer to your Wi-Fi router or access point (to make sure it is not out of range)
  • Repeat the directions in Step 3 to rescan and reconfigure your wireless network settings
  • If you are connecting to a Wi-Fi network with a hidden SSID, it won’t show up in the automatic scan. Click “Next” after scanning for wireless networks and manually configure your wireless settings
  • Verify that your Ooma device works with a hardwired Ethernet connection to your router
  • Reboot your Ooma device and Wi-Fi router or access point

Can’t connect to setup.ooma.com:Check that your computer is connected to the HOME NETWORK port of the Ooma device and that the Ethernet cable is plugged in securely. The LED next to the port should be lit green. Make sure your computer is configured to automatically request an IP address. Also, try browsing to: http://172.27.35.1 instead.

Voice quality is poor:Check the signal quality on the Wireless section on setup.ooma.com. Try moving the Ooma device closer to your wireless router or access point. See if there is high network traffic (such as streaming video) that could impact the quality of your phone calls.
