Y8610 Homeowner’s Guide

APPLICATION

Your furnace has been modified from a continuously burning pilot to an Intermittent Pilot Ignition system. The Intermittent Pilot Ignition system saves gas by automatically shutting the pilot off when it isn’t needed to light the main burner. The ignition system also eliminates turning the pilot off during the summer, and then relighting again in the fall.

Before this system was installed, the pilot was on all the time, and had to be manually relit if it went out. Now, each time the thermostat calls for heat, a control module automatically lights the pilot flame. Then the furnace starts and operates just as before. When the call for heat ends and the burner shuts off, the pilot is also shut off.

NOTE: A sticky-back label with the following operating instructions has been attached to the front of your furnace.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

This appliance has been modified. Do not follow the original manual lighting procedure on your furnace. Use new instructions shown on black and yellow sticker. Do not attempt to use a match to relight the pilot or main burner; burn injury or electrical shock may result. Lighting of the pilot is automatically performed by electronic spark ignition each time the thermostat calls for heat. The pilot is not burning when there is no call for heat.

NO HEAT-CHECK THE FOLLOWING

1. Check thermostat setting and system switches on thermostat.2. Check switches, fuses, and circuit breakers that control the furnace.3. Check to be sure electrical power to the furnace has not been interrupted.4. Check to be sure that all shutoff valves in the gas line and the gas valve are in the ON position.5. RESET IGNITION SYSTEM:

a. Turn the thermostat to the low end of its temperature range. If the thermostat has a system switch, turn it to the OFF position.

TURN DIAL TO LOW END

OR TURN SYSTEM SWITCH

b. Wait one minute. Then turn the system switch to HEAT and set the thermostat at least 2° F (1.1° C) above room temperature. The furnace should start. The blower (fan) will start approximately two or three minutes after the main burner lights.

6. If the above steps do not start the pilot and main burner, call your gas appliance service technician. Do not attempt to light manually.
