Introduction

Thank you for purchasing the CA105010 Digital Camera. Everything you need to take quality digital photos and videos is included with your device. Please read this manual carefully first in order to get the most out of your digital camera.IMPORTANT:

  • Please do not plug the camera into the USB port of your computer until you have installedthe “Vivitar Experience Image Manager” Software and the camera’s driver. Plugging in your camera before the software installation will cause the device to not be recognized by the computer and no images will be downloaded.
  • This camera needs a constant charge to save the images you capture to the internal memory. Do not remove or replace the batteries before downloading the images to the computer. Images will be permanently lost if you replace the batteries before downloading them to the computer. It is recommended to download your images often.

Computer System Requirements

To be able to download photos and videos to your computer, you will need the following minimum configuration:WINDOWS OS

A Quick Look at Your Digital Camera

Inserting the Batteries

Your camera requires 3 x AAA batteries. Alkaline batteries are recommended.To insert the batteries into the camera:

  1. Loosen the screw on the battery compartment cover with a screwdriver included).
  2. Open the cover of the battery compartment.
  3. Insert the batteries according to the polarities (+ and -) indicated on the battery compartment.
  4. Close the battery cover and then tighten the screw to securely close the

BATTERY WARNING:

  • Do not mix old and new batteries.
  • Do not mix alkaline, standard (carbon-zinc), or rechargeable (nickel-cadmium) batteries.
  • Batteries are not to be inserted with the wrong polarity.
  • Exhausted batteries are to be removed from the camera.
  • The supply terminals are not to be short-circuited.

Please recycle or dispose of the battery properly. Contact local recycling facilities and/or the manufacturer of your battery for further information

Note:

  • If you do not intend to use your camera for an extended time, remove the batteries to avoid leakage and corrosion. Make sure to first download your captured photos and videos BEFORE removing the batteries.

REMOVING BATTERIES

  1. Loosen the screw on the battery compartment cover with a screwdriver (not included).
  2. Slide open the battery compartment cover.
  3. Replace the batteries with 3 fresh ones.
  4. Close the battery cover and tighten the screw.

BATTERY CAPACITYAn icon appears on the top right corner of your Preview Screen, showing the amount of battery power available.

  • Once the battery indicator falls below 35% it is advisable to download the images to your computer as quickly as possible so as not to lose them.
  • Removing the batteries and replacing them with new ones also erases the images from the camera’s memory.

HOW TO SAVE YOUR IMAGES WHEN THE BATTERIES RUN LOWWhen the battery power is running low, the `Low Battery Power’ icon message appears on the Preview Screen and then the camera automatically switches off. In this case, you will need to replace the camera’s batteries before continuing to take photos.Note:

  • Do not open the battery compartment to replace the batteries until you have downloaded the images to thecomputer.
  • The message continually appears each time you try to power on your camera. This means that the camera hasreserved battery power to allow you to save your images.
  • It is recommended to download and save your photos and videos often so as not to lose them if the battery powerruns low. Before replacing the batteries, follow the steps below to download and save your captured images.
  1. Use the supplied USB cable to connect the camera to the computer where you installed the `Snapshots Software and the camera’s driver.
  2. Wait a few seconds for the computer to recognize the camera. 3. Open the `Snapshots’ Software and press the “Get Images” button.Note: See the section “Getting Photos and Videos from the Camera to the Computer” for further information on how to use the `Snapshots’ Software to download your images. 4. After you have downloaded and saved your images to your computer, you can open the battery compartment and replace the batteries.

REMEMBER:

  • Please download any photos you have on the camera before opening the battery compartment.
  • Do not remove the batteries before downloading the photos and videos from the camera. Doing so will erase everything in the camera’s memory.

Getting Started

In order to download the photos and videos captured with this camera, you need to install the `Snapshots’ Software and camera-specific driver for this device.See “Installing the `Snapshots” section of this manual to learn how to install the software BEFORE connecting the camera to your computer.POWERING ON THE CAMERA

  1. Press the POWER button to power on the camera.
  2. The color LCD Preview Screen turns on to confirm that your camera is on and ready for use.
  3. Once powered on, if you want to make changes to the camera’s default settings, please read the instructions ofthis manual.
  4. By default, after powering on the camera, the Photo Mode is active and ready to take photos.

DEFAULT SETTINGSWhen you start the camera for the first time, the default settings are:

  • PHOTO MODE
  • HIGH RESOLUTION: 2 Megapixel – 1600×1280
  • NORMAL QUALITY · 60 HZ- For North America, Central America, and certain regions in South AmericaYou can immediately start taking photos if you would like to remain with the default settings.

POWERING OFF THE CAMERAPress the POWER button to switch the camera off.ENERGY SAVE MODETo conserve battery power, if the camera is not in use for 30 seconds, it automatically switches off.

Camera Navigation

MAIN MENU

The Main Menu allows you to select the Camera Mode and change the Camera Settings.

  1. Press the POWER to power on the camera.
  2. Press the MENU button for the Main Menu screen to appear.Note: Press the MENU button again to exit the Main Menu screen.
  3. Press the UP or DOWN button to toggle between the menu icons and select a menu option.
  4. Press the Shutter button to toggle between the different submenu options within each menu.
  5. Press the MENU button to save your selected option.

MAIN MENU OPTIONS

  • CAPTURE MODE: First icon (top left):Submenu options: Photo, Self-Timer, Video, and Continuous 3 Shot
  • RESOLUTION SETTING: Second icon (top middle):Submenu Options: 2.1M, 1.3M, VGA
  • QUALITY SETTING: Third icon (top right):Submenu Options: High Quality, Normal Quality
  • FREQUENCY SETTING: Fourth icon (bottom left):Submenu options: 60Hz, 50Hz
  • DELETE: Fifth icon (bottom middle):Submenu Options: Yes, No

Camera Modes

The Camera Modes include:

  • Capture Mode
  • Playback ModeCAPTURE MODEThe Capture Mode allows you to capture images, both photos, and videos, with your digital camera.Note: Make sure you have sufficient lighting to capture your images. If the scene you would like to capture does not have adequate lighting, the message `Too Dark’ appears on the Preview Screen to let you know that you need to adjust the lighting.

The Capture Mode options include:

PHOTO CAPTUREThe Photo Capture Mode allows you to capture pictures with your digital camera.

  1. Press the POWER button to power on the camera.
  2. The camera opens by default to Photo Capture Mode.A camera icon is displayed on the top left of the Preview Screen.
  3. Compose your shot using the Preview Screen.Note: The optimal distance between the camera and the subject is approximately 5 feet.
  4. Hold the camera steady and press the Shutter button to take the photo.The camera beeps when the photo is taken.
  5. The Preview Screen displays the captured image and the number of photos that can be still taken for a shorttime after the photo is taken.
  6. The photo is saved as a JPEG file to the camera’s memory.

How to Proceed When the Camera Memory is FullIf you attempt to take a photo when the memory is full, the camera beeps twice continuously, and “Memory is Full” appears on the Preview Screen. This means that no further images can be captured until the existing images are downloaded and cleared from the camera’s memory. In order to continue taking photos, you will need to

  1. Download all the photos and videos from your camera to your computer.
  2. Delete all the photos from your camera after the photos have been downloaded and appear on your computer.
  3. Continue to capture more photos and videos once your camera memory is empty.

SELF-TIMERThe Self Timer option allows you to delay the time that the camera’s shutter button is pressed and the actual capture of the picture. This is an optimal feature if you don’t just want to take the picture but would also like to be in the picture yourself.

  1. Press the MENU button to enter the Main Menu.The Capture Mode icon is selected by default.
  2. Press the Shutter button until the Self-Timer icon appears.
  3. Press the MENU button again to save the Self-Timer option and exit the menu.
  4. The Self-Timer icon appears at the top left corner of the Preview Screen.
  5. The camera is now ready to take a photo using the Self-Timer’s 10-second count down.Compose your shot using the Preview Screen. Press the Shutter button to start the countdown. During the countdown, the camera emits a beep for every second. After 10 seconds the photo is taken automatically.
  6. The Preview Screen displays the captured image and the number of photos that can be still taken for a short time after the photo is taken.
  7. The photo is saved as a JPEG file to the camera’s memory.

VIDEO CAPTUREThe Video Capture Mode allows you to take videos with your digital camera.

  1. Press the MENU button to enter the Main Menu.The Capture Mode icon is selected by default.
  2. Press the Shutter button until the Video icon appears.
  3. Press the MENU button again to save the Video option and exit the menu
  4. The Video icon appears at the top left corner of the LCD Screen.
  5. Compose your video using the Preview Screen.
  6. Press the Shutter button to start taking the video and again to stop the video capture.During video capture, the elapsed time of the recording appears at the bottom right corner of the LCD Screen.
  7. The video is saved as an AVI file to the camera’s memory.

CONTINUOUS 3 SHOTThe Continuous 3 Shot option allows you to take three rapid snapshots in a row with a single click of the Shutter button. This feature can be effective when trying to capture a scene with quick movements.

  1. Press the MENU button to enter the Main Menu.The Capture Mode icon is selected by default.
  2. Press the Shutter button until the Continuous 3 Shot icon appears.
  3. Press the MENU button again to save the Continuous 3 Shot option and exit the menu
  4. The Continuous 3 Shot icon appears at the top left corner of the LCD Screen.
  5. Compose your shot using the Preview Screen.
  6. The camera is now ready to take 3 continuous photos.Press the Shutter button. The camera automatically captures 3 continuous photos one after the other.
  7. The Preview Screen displays the captured image and the number of photos that can be still taken for a short time after each photo is taken.
  8. The photos are saved as JPEG files to the camera’s memory.

PLAYBACK MODEThe Playback Mode enables you to preview the image files (JPEG/AVI) stored on your camera using the Preview Screen.VIEWING IMAGES (PHOTOS AND VIDEOS)

  1. Press the Playback button to enter the Playback Mode.
  2. The Preview Screen displays the last photo or video file that was taken.Photos appear with the Photo Icon on the top left. Videos appear with the Video Icon on the top left.Note: The message `No Photo’ appears on the Preview Screen if you have no captured images saved to your camera’s memory.
  3. The sequence number and the total number of files currently stored appear on the bottom left of the Preview Screen.
  4. Press the UP or DOWN button to view the previous or next image.
  5. To exit the Playback Mode, press the Playback button again.

VIDEO PLAYBACK

  1. Press the Playback button to enter the Playback Mode. Video clips (AVI) appear with the Video icon on the top left corner of the Preview Screen.
  2. Select your video by pressing the UP or DOWN button to scroll through your captured images.
  3. Press the Shutter button to play the selected video.Press the Shutter button again to pause the playback.Note: When playing the video file, the elapsed time appears on the bottom right corner of the Preview Screen.

Camera Settings

RESOLUTION SETTINGThe Resolution Setting allows you to choose the desired size of the images taken by your camera. Keep in mind that images with a higher resolution will take up more of your camera’s memory. The Image Resolution Setting includes the following options:The icon with 3 stars represents the resolution: 2.1M (1600 x 1280)The icon with 2 stars represents the resolution: 1.3M (1280 x 1024)The icon with 1 star represents the resolution: VGA (640 x 480)To select the desired Resolution Setting:

  1. Press the MENU button to enter the Main Menu.
  2. Press the UP or DOWN button to select the Resolution Setting menu icon.
  3. Press the Shutter button until the desired Resolution Setting option appears.
  4. Press the MENU button to save the selected Resolution Setting option and exit to the Capture Mode.

Note: Images taken will be saved with the selected Resolution Setting. This setting can be changed as desired and the images will be stored separately in the camera’s memory.QUALITY SETTINGThe Quality Setting allows you to select the desired quality level of the images taken by your camera. Keep in mind that images with a higher image quality will take up more of your camera’s memory. The Quality Setting includes the following options:High Quality: large file size, fewer photos stored in memoryNormal Quality: smaller file size, more photos stored in memoryTo select the desired Quality Setting:

  1. Press the MENU button to enter the Main Menu.
  2. Press the UP or DOWN button to select the Quality Setting menu icon.
  3. Press the Shutter button until the desired Quality Setting option appears.
  4. Press the MENU button to save the selected Quality Setting option and exit to the Capture Mode.Note: Images taken will be saved with the selected Quality Setting. This setting can be changed as desired and the images will be stored separately in the camera’s memory.

FREQUENCY SETTING

Set the camera for the correct frequency according to the electric current frequency in the area where you are. The Frequency Setting includes the following options:60 Hz: for US, Canada, Japan, and South America50 Hz: for UK, Europe, Asia, and AustraliaTo select the desired Frequency Setting:

  1. Press the MENU button to enter the Main Menu.
  2. Press the UP or DOWN button to select the Frequency Setting menu icon.
  3. Press the Shutter button until the desired Frequency Setting option appears.
  4. Press the MENU button to save the selected Frequency Setting and exit to the Capture Mode.

Note: Images taken will be saved with the selected Frequency Setting. This setting can be changed as desired.DELETEThe Delete Setting deletes all photos and videos saved to your camera’s memory.DELETE ALL

  1. Press the MENU button to enter the Main Menu.
  2. Press the UP or DOWN button to select the Delete Setting menu icon.
  3. Press the Shutter button.
  4. The Delete confirmation screen appears with the following options: Yes, No.Press the UP or DOWN button to select `Yes’ or `No’.
  • To Delete All your photos and videos: Select `Yes, then press the Shutter button to confirm the deletion. This automatically erases all files (photos and videos) stored on the camera and then exits to the Capture Mode.
  • To Cancel: Select `No’, then press the Shutter button to return to the Main Menu.

PLAYBACK MODE > DELETE A SINGLE FILEEnter the Playback Mode to delete a single photo or video that you have captured.

  1. Press the Playback button to enter the Playback Mode.
  2. Press the UP or DOWN button to scroll through your captured images and select the image you would like to delete.
  3. Press the MENU button.
  4. The Delete confirmation screen appears with the following options: Yes, No.Press the UP or DOWN button to select `Yes’ or `No’.
  • To Delete a single photo or video: Select `Yes, then press the Shutter button to confirm the deletion. This automatically erases the selected file stored on the camera and then exits to the Playback Mode.
  • To Cancel: Select `No’, then press the Shutter button to return to the Playback Mode.

IMPORTANT:Please use the delete options with caution.The delete process is irreversible and the files will be erased without recovery.

Installing the `Vivitar Experience Image Manager’ Software

  1. From the online link above, select the appropriate platform, “Windows Desktop Application” or “Mac Desktop Application”, to download the Vivitar Experience Image Manager Software to your computer.NOTE: After selecting the appropriate link (Windows or Mac), the download to your computer automatically begins.
  2. Click the Vivitar Experience Image Manager file (usually located in your computer’s “Downloads” folder) to launch the installation and click on “Run” to begin the installation.
  3. WINDOWS OS: Click the “I accept the terms of this license agreement” and then click “Next” to continue. MACINTOSH OS: Click “Continue” to accept the license agreement.
  4. WINDOWS OS: Let the `Vivitar Experience Image Manager’ installer create the folder to where the program will be installed, and then click “Install”. MACINTOSH OS: Click “Install”.
  5. Please wait while the application continues the installation process on your computer. Follow all instructions. MAC OS: If needed, please follow instructions to install the Adobe® Flash® Player. This requires an Internet connection.
  6. WINDOWS OS: Click the “Close” button when the installation is complete 7. MACINTOSH OS: After the installation is complete, the application should automatically open. 8. If you closed the application, click on the `Vivitar Experience Image Manager’ desktop icon to launch the app.

Connecting the Camera to the Computer

  1. Use the supplied USB cable to connect your camera to your computer.
  2. Plug the smaller end of the USB cable into the USB slot on the side of the camera, and then plug the other end into an available USB port on your computer.
  3. Your camera automatically turns on.
  4. On a WINDOWS OS computer, the first time you connect the device to the computer you will have to wait for a fewmoments until the computer recognizes the device.

Getting Photos and Videos from the Camera to the Computer

IMPORTANT: Do not disconnect the cable during transfer. Doing so will cancel the transfer of any files on their way to your computer.The camera can also be used to capture images without batteries while connected to the computer with the provided USB cable. However, the images need to be downloaded before disconnecting the camera as they are not stored in the camera’s memory without batteries.

  1. Select the “Get Images” button from the Main menu
  2. The “Get media from device” window opens.
  3. Both photos and videos (if you have captured any) will get downloaded.
  4. Select your camera model from the device window. If your camera is the only device connected then it will be selected automatically.
  5. Select a location on the computer where to place the new photo and video files.
  6. Add the new photo and video files to albums if desired.
  7. Select to remove the media files from the selected device after the import.
  8. Click the “Get Media” button to transfer the photos and videos from your camera to your computer.
  9. A media download progress window appears in the middle of the screen showing the number of media files

downloading to your computer. A message appears when the download is complete. 10. The photo and video files that you selected are now downloaded to your computer to the selected folder andalbums ready for your use.

Using the `Vivitar Experience Image Manager’ application you can:

  • Upload and manage photos and videos to and from the most popular photo-sharing and social networking sites – Picasa, Twitter, and YouTube.
  • Seamlessly transfer photos and videos from one social network to another.
  • Organize your images by creating offline and online albums.
  • Edit images using automatic and manual tools.
  • Use automatic “Geotagging” with built-in Google Maps.

Q: I have taken photos, but my computer says “No photos in-camera.” What do I do?Ensure that you have taken photos with your camera. Press the Shutter button a few times to take some sample photos and try again. If you still get a no photos error, this indicates that the software and camera driver were not installed correctly or your computer may not meet the minimum system requirements (refer to the Computer System Requirements section of this manual).Q: How do I make sure I don’t lose important pictures?Your camera uses SDRAM memory, which requires a constant electric current to store your photos. Should your camera lose power (for instance if the battery dies or run out of power) all stored pictures will be lost. We recommend always downloading your photos to your computer as soon as possible to prevent unintentional data loss.Q: If I have a MAC, will the device work?Yes.
