Sova B07DDG8SD2 Night Time grind protection

Congratulations on the purchase of your new SOVA Night Guard. The fitting tips and information on the back will help you have a successful experience with our award-winning, ultra thin night guard.

Braces:If you have braces, DO NOT attempt to fit your SOVA Night Guard at home. Instead, contact your orthodontist (see right for more info).

Fitting Checklist:

  • Bowl, ceramic or glass
  • Hot, but not boiling, water (170°F / 76°C)
  • Fork or similar utensil
  • Mirror

Do This:

  • Use water that is hot to the touch to activate your nightguard.
  • Double check that the bottom of your front teeth are lined up with the bite pad.
  • Suck in air gently, creating a snug but still comfortable fit.

Don’t Do This:

  • Use boiling water to mold your SOVA Night Guard!
  • Overly stretch the material, creating large perforations.
  • Suck in air too enthusiastically, creating a fit that’s too tight.
  • Bite down too hard or create deep bite marks in the nightguard.

If you are fitting:

The technology behind the SOVA Night Guard is more advanced than a simple boil and bite nightguard, so be sure to follow these instructions carefully in order to get the best fit.

Step 1

  • Wash your hands and the SOVA with mild soap and water.
  • Heat water in a small glass or ceramic bowl until hot to the touch (170°F/76°C).
  • Place your SOVA into the hot water until soft and pliable (use utensil to determine softness).

Step 2

Once soft, use the utensil to carefully lift the SOVA out of the water. DO NOT let the softened nightguard fold on itself – the material will glue together, making it difficult to reshape.Step 3

  • Balancing the pliable nightguard with your thumbs, lean in toward the mirror and open your mouth just wide enough to insert the nightguard with your thumbs.
  • Bite down gently on the bite pad in the middle of the nightguard.

Step 4

  • Hold the nightguard gently in place using your teeth and tongue.
  • Don’t let the nightguard shift.
  • With your fingers, fold the nightguard straight up. Be sure to mold the nightguard up towards the gum line on the front and sides of your teeth to create a solid shield.

Step 5

  • Once the SOVA Night Guard is in the proper position, close your lips over the nightguard and gently create suction until the material has hardened to a snug, perfect fit.
  • Keep the SOVA Night Guard in place until it is fully hardened, approximately 10 minutes.

If you are fitting a child with:

The technology behind the SOVA Night Guard is more advanced than a simple boil and bite nightguard, so be sure to follow these instructions carefully in order to get the best fit for your child. Make sure you have ample time by leaving extra time for fitting a child. Take a break if you don’t have the proper fit after a few tries.

Step 3

  • Balancing the pliable nightguard with your index fingers. Have your child open his/her mouth just wide enough to insert the nightguard.
  • Guide the nightguard into your child’s mouth. Line the nightguard so that the upper teeth are aligned with the bite pad in the center of the nightguard.

Step 4

  • Once into position, have your child bite down gently to keep the nightguard in place. Without stretching the material , use your fingers to fold the nightguard up against the teeth, toward the gum line.
  • Be sure to keep the teeth together until the fitting process is complete.

Step 5

  • Have your child close their lips over the nightguard and breathe deeply to create a vacuum suction. Tell them to close their mouth and try to swallow all the saliva in their mouth until the material hardens.
  • Keep the SOVA Night Guard in place until it is fully hardened, approximately 10 minutes.

SOVA Night Guard Fitting Check

  1. Does your nightguard cover the outside of your teeth?
  2. Can you clearly say “SOVA” ?
  3. You can also choose to remold a specific part of the nightguard by dipping just the problem section in the hot water and refitting that portion of the nightguard.
  4. Your SOVA nightguard is remoldable! If your previous fit was too snug, try remolding the nightguard using less suction.

Important Note about SOVA Junior Night Guard:

Limit therapy to no more than 2 months at a time. Most children respond quickly to therapy and the elimination of the SOVA Junior Night Guard is usually possible in 4-6 weeks. Remold every 4 weeks to accommodate for growing arches.

Got Braces? READ THIS FIRST!

If undergoing orthodontic treatment, have your dentist or orthodontist fit your SOVA for you! He/she will use the appropriate barriers between the nightguard and braces so that the material, while pliable, doesn’t bond to your brackets. We also recommend that, no matter your child’s age, all children use an adult-sized SOVA Night Guard whenever wearing braces in order to ensure proper fit.

Cleaning & Storage

Your SOVA Night Guard can be brushed with a regular toothbrush using toothpaste. Carefully rinse and dry before storage, and store at room temperature under dry conditions. Protect your SOVA Night Guard from warm environments, such as hot dashboards in cars. When hot environments are unavoidable, we suggest keeping your SOVA in a container with water.

SOVA Junior Night Guard Fitting Check

  1. Double check the fitting of finished molded nightguard. Make sure the front teeth lined up with the bite pad.
  2. You should only be able to remove the nightguard with your fingers. If you can pop it out with your tongue, the fit is not tight enough.
  3. If your fit is positioned correctly, fits snugly and feels comfortable, you’re set. If not, you can remold your SOVA Junior Night Guard. Just slip it back in the hot water to restart the fitting process.
  4. You can also choose to remold a specific part of the nightguard by dipping just the problem section in the hot water and refitting that portion of the nightguard.
  5. If your previous fit was too snug, try remolding the nightguard using less suction.
  6. Now that you’ve got the perfect fit for your SOVA Junior Night Guard, you’re ready to go.

To avoid having difficulties fitting the guard, read the instructions thoroughly, watch our video, or give use a call. We are happy to help.Be sure to use minimal suction while fitting to avoid a fit that’s too tight.SOVA needs to fully soften before fitting, so make sure the water is hot enough. The temperature should be about as hot as a cup of hot coffee or tea (170°F/76°C).SOVA is made of a harder material on purpose. Softer guards are subject to more deformation and, for extreme clenchers, will not last long.SOVA can be used on top or bottom teeth. Your SOVA Nightguard can be molded according to your preference to fit either your top or bottom teeth.
